"Are you sure you have to go, (Y/n)?"
Maya meowed behind Celine, nervously wrapping her tail around the petite woman's leg. The homeowner nervously held her hands together at her lower abdomen, playing with her thumbs slightly as she looked at (Y/n). The guest of the home gave Celine a sympathetic smile.
"I do. I'm sorry, but Ethan and I have to be ready early in the morning to go through more paperwork from your files. You're still technically under investigation, you know."
She held her head down slightly, pursing her lips together as she thought over her outrage in the courtroom that caused her to get into this whole mess in the first place. It was a stupid decision... somewhat. She felt as if her anger was justifiable, but she didn't think that anyone else would really believe that.
"Yeah.. I remember."
"I have my concern mostly on Dark and the house, but even so, I still need to work on finding documentation—that's what I'm getting paid for."
Celine raised her head up, nodding it slightly with a slightly disappointed look on her face.
"I understand. You don't need a ride home?"
(Y/n) smiled, "Ah, no. I like to be able to walk a little bit. It gets my blood flowing, you know?"
Celine looked down at Maya, concern written all over her face, "If you say so.. Just be careful?"
The attorney waved lightly at the girl and her cat, laughing a little when Maya said goodbye with a loud 'meow', "I'll send you a message when I get home if that would make you feel better."
The homeowner relaxed a little bit, letting out a small sigh of relief, "That would be great. Bye bye now, (Y/n). Be safe out there."
The girl gripped onto the doorknob, slowly bringing it shut as she stepped out of the house, "Good night you two. Take care."
With that, the door was closed, the sound of (Y/n)'s feet stepping against the stairs stone disappearing shortly after. Soon enough, the house was quiet again, leaving Celine to listen to only the creaking floorboards and the cat in front of the door that let out a confused and curious purr.

The sun was soon setting in the distance, the familiar glow of the sunlight quickly leaving the sidewalks concrete and (Y/n)'s (s/c) skin. She shivered lightly, feeling the LA chill hit her exposed arms. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was getting a little cooler than she had expected. The girl wrapped her arms around her shoulders, hugging herself as she walked back towards home.
The sound of tires squealing hit her ears, causing her to look towards the road. A white van sloppily pulled up onto the side of the concrete, one of its wheels ramping up onto the city sidewalk. (Y/n) stepped back a little bit, concerned. Was this person driving drunk? Why in the world did they just pull up like that?
Everything in her mind shifted as the driver's front door opened, revealing a pair of dark brown eyes that looked over at her with a sparkle in their irises. Mark smiled cheerfully, unnerving the girl down to her core.
"(Y/n)!" He said happily, laughing and running his hands through his hair, "It's been so long since we've talked. How's life been going for you?"
She stood there in front of him, her heart jumping into her throat and her skin turning a sickening dull and pale. What was he doing..?
(Y/n) watched him closely and carefully, her brain alert, and her body becoming quickly numb. Mark seemed to be taking a few steps towards her, but it was hard for her to register that as her mind filled with defensive haze. She just wanted to run, but her knees wobbled at the sight of him, let alone the way he effortlessly walked towards her.
