THREE WEEKS LATER

August 24 rolled around sooner than expected. Just a week until school were to begin. And the flyers printed "Back to School Sale" made it inescapable to be reminded just how cut short this summer was like all the past.

So, here I was, spending the last of my allowance on notebooks, pens and unnecessary but very pretty stationary I won't have the guts to touch and ruin. Once I got my belongings crammed into a small plastic bag, I ran out the mini target and onto a small sidewalk where everyone was shoving each other for a clearer path.

The streets were crowded with businessmen and women either holding up a drink or phone in their hand. I continued running past them heading straight to behind the police station. 5:46, said my flashing screen. I still had time before meeting up with Dick. When having familiar buildings come back in sight, I put on the navy blue baseball cap he had given me during our last date.

In all honesty, I don't know how this came to be. It wasn't like it was a real relationship, I think. After a couple days from the traffic disaster, I got in trouble again. Very predictable of me. This time I got caught by the big bad man himself, Batman. Was I happy about it? No. Who did he call? Officer Grayson of course. Things were awkward at first, but after getting out the butterfly stage with him, I got my confidence back. My flirtatious side included.

Maybe it was the way my lips trailed down his jawline and onto his neck that wrapped him around my finger. Or the way he kept whispering sweet nothings in my ear that got me hooked. He wanted more, each one of my kisses strengthened the love potion he was caught in. The outcome? I had gotten myself a new fling that day in traffic, an older and more experienced one too. I guess that's what really caused us into this mess. The mess of me sneakily seeing him after work for a walk in the park. Sometimes he'd even take me to the ice cream parlor or Allison's pizza place.

5:54. I sighed, regaining my breath and leaned against the brick wall of the back of the station. I could hear them roaming inside there. Buttons were being pressed and computer noises echoed out onto the alley and into the back where cardboard boxes laid. I fixed my brown hair and my wrinkled shirt. Just as I was about to pop a candy into my mouth the steel door opened up letting someone out of the packed station.

"Hey, Lo" Dick smiled letting my nickname ring nicely out between his lips. His eyes glanced around us, searching to make sure we were all alone. His smile turned into a smirk as he walked closer to me. His hand tipped the baseball cap on my head so he could get a better look at me. Moving beneath the cap, he kissed me once and then again, the smacking of our lips echoing making my head pound.

My hand had reached the back of his neck when we finally parted. I licked my lips and interlocked our hands together. His hand squeezing mine as he lead me out the back of the station and into the public eye.

"How was it?" I asked laying my head against his biceps. He had been wearing his uniform under his sweater, a small hint of blue peeking out from it.

"Eh, found a lot of druggies today" He shrugged grabbing onto my arm that was wrapped around his. His hand slid down and up my arm that clung onto him. The smallest things he done always comforted me, made me feel as though I was the only girl he saw.

"Your job seems so cool, be grateful you don't have to go back to school" I laughed jokingly punching his shoulder. Dick's expression turned into a snicker, his laughter making my heart and a cheeks warm. I gave him a strange look as we both continued conversing about the day we've had. Before we headed towards our destination, my apartment building came into view. Luckily for me, I was back in the south today and my favorite red bricked home laid in front of me.
