Chapter 11

Pikachu

Pewter City-

Green walked out of the Pewter City Pokémon Center, and Charmander followed. By now he had, along with his Spearow, captured a Rattata. His training regimen was harsh. He pushed his Pokémon to extremes. They were truly ferocious in battle. However, it was Charmander he loved most. As soon as it was able to learn the Ember attack, it became his "secret weapon." He let Charmander follow him around most of the time. In Viridian Forest, it proved to be very useful, scorching through those Bug Catcher's little bug Pokémon.

Green was heading towards the Gym. The Pewter City Gym Leader was named Brock. Green had gathered information about him the night before in the Pokémon Center. Apparently, Brock liked to use Rock-type Pokémon, their tough outer bodies practically immune from a direct physical attack.

Green walked through the door, ready to take the first step towards greatness. Brock and his prize, the Boulder Badge, awaited.

Viridian Forest-

Red and Blue camped that night under a large tree a couple miles away from the battle with the Bug Catcher. The next morning, they rolled up their sleeping bags (which Red's mom had given them for their adventures), and continued along the path to the north. They let their Pokémon out of their Poke-balls. Blue's Pokémon, were in tip top shape. Nidoran rode on Blue's shoulder, as Bulbasaur trotted alongside her. As for Red's Pokémon, Pidgey seemed to have recovered from the sticky strings on its legs and wing, and flew ahead tree by tree. Squirtle, on the other hand, seemed tired and the purple welt on its tail seemed to grow. Red decided to consult his Pokedex to see the reason.

"It says 'Poison-type Pokémon can often inflict a status condition known as "Poison" to opposing Pokémon. Often they leave infections and sickness, and untreated may last for a couple of days." Red was bummed. Squirtle was his best Pokémon. He would have to rely on Blue to get through the Forest. They were still a day out from the other edge of the forest. They recalled their Pokémon into their balls and kept going.

A little while later, they came by a stream and began to refill their water jugs when they heard a voice.

"Hey!" it said. "You look like the kid my friend told me about that beat him in a battle! Let's see how tough you really are!" It was another Bug Catcher. This one was a little taller, and judging that he was further into the forest, was probably a better trainer.

"Leave him alone!" said Blue. "I'll battle you!"

"Oh so you have to let your girlfriend fight the tough battles while you take the easy ones! What a gentleman!" Red flushed with anger.

"She's not my girlfriend!" he said as he paced towards him with Pidgey's Poke-ball in his hand. Blue stuck her arm out to stop him. She already had Nidoran's ball in her hand.

"Anyways, you're just a girl! And girls don't like bugs!" The Bug Catcher tossed his Poke-ball up into the air, and a Weedle appeared.
