Chapter 14:
The Road to Mt. Moon
Cerulean City-
Lance and Lorelei had left their dates at once, and flew on Lance's Dragonite to Cerulean City. There they had interrogated the victims of the Poke-nappers. They had indeed all reported of seeing men dressed in black, and on their shirt was a big red R. Lance was able to follow minor footprints and slight traces to a little girl on a farm. In the girl’s possession were all three of the stolen Poke-balls.
"Little girl," he asked. "Where'd you get those Pokémon?"
"A nice man gave them to me!" she said.
"I'm going to have to take those Pokémon," Lance said. "They've been stolen from their original owners."
The little girl reluctantly handed them over.
"Do you see which direction this man went?"
"He walked right down the road that way," said the girl, pointing towards the west. In the distance, a large mountain stood tall above all others: Mt. Moon. The girl began to sob; she had always wanted a Pokémon.
"Oh, don't cry," said Lance. "One day, I'm sure you'll get a Pokémon of your very own. If you ever see this man who gave you the Pokémon again, give me a call." He wrote down his phone number and handed it to the little girl. He didn't ride Dragonite again, he wanted to follow the trail more closely. "Some very strange things are happening in Kanto…" he said to himself.
Pewter City-
Blue woke up at dawn to find that Red was already up, he and his Pokémon were eating breakfast. Pidgey was pecking away at a bowl of sunflower seeds, while Pikachu and Squirtle were blabbering to each other in their Pokémon speech about the last days' Gym Battle. Blue decided she'd have breakfast too.
She released her Pokémon as well. Bulbasaur immediately ran over to Pikachu and Squirtle, who welcomed the tiny Plant Pokémon warmly. Nidoran stayed by Blue's side, and even helped to give the little Caterpie some sugar-water (a delicacy among Bug Pokémon).
"I didn't sleep at all," said Red. "I was too excited about my Gym Badge."
"You're one Gym Badge," corrected Blue.
"Hey you two," Brock had walked into the kitchen where they ate. "If you want to make it to Mt. Moon by tonight, you're going to have to leave pretty soon." He sat down at the table, took out a small silver-colored wallet and handed it to Red. "Open it; it's a Gym-Badge Case. Normally I wouldn't give such a thing to an ordinary trainer who beat me… But let's face it, you took down my Onix with a Pikachu, you're no ordinary trainer. I think you can go as far as you want.
