Chapter 42

Saytee

I couldn't stop the tears. When I said I was alright, that nobody had done anything to me, I was obviously lying, and Jim must have known that. I may not have shown it toward the end, but I was so scared I'd never see him again.

As afraid as I still was, I knew Jim would want to see what I found. I hopped down and looked behind me expectantly. Silver was here, somewhere.

Jim was looking in the same direction I was, but he looked confused. He didn't know what I was searching for.

When I finally saw Silver emerging from the crowd, I turned back to Him and smiled brightly. He was staring ahead, dumbfounded by the sight. I let go of him and pushed him toward Silver.

I couldn't hear what they were talking about through the crowd, but I saw that they were. I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder, and I jerked around, only to see Aaron. I smiled and gave him a hug, too.

I did wonder if he and Jim ever really make up, but I didn't bother to ask now.

A few of the cyborg men started looking at me again, and Aaron led me back to the ship. I guess even he knows to protect me. It's actually very sweet of him, even if it does kind if make me seem weak. But, hey, I guess I am, huh?

I was surprised that Jim came back so soon. I would have been okay without him for a while longer, if he really wanted to stay and visit with Silver.

For the time he was gone, I just visited with Aaron, BEN, and Morph.

But he was only gone for about an hour, and night was falling on the planet. Now here was something I wasn't used to anymore, a sunset.

Jim walked up the ramp to the ship slowly, as if he really didn't want to leave, and I understood. I was climbing on the ropes, like I usually did, and I let him come to me.

I purposely sat on the edge of the ship that wasn't facing the land. Because sunsets are romantic, and if I wanted anything tonight, it was some real romance with Jim.

I pretended not to seem as ecstatic as I was when Jim climbed up with me. I glanced at him, he watched the sun. "Hi," I said, kind of trying to get some attention.

He smiled at me and wrapped his arm around me, and I leaned on his shoulder. "You look depressed." I observed. He laughed softly. "It's just, so much has happened."

I nodded, a lot has happened for me, too. I mean, probably not as much as with him. All I did was fall in love, he's had to face his whole past...I know that would certainly scare me.

There was a moment of silence, and just when I was about to say something, Jim beat me to it. "I love you." He told me. I smiled and looked into his eyes, letting him lean down and almost kiss me.

"NO NO!" Yelled BEN, so startling that I slipped off the ropes and started falling down the side. But Jim caught me, like he always does.

"Let's keep this PG rated, you two." BEN warned again. Jim lifted me back up to him, setting me on his lap. He totally ignored BEN, and crushed his lips to mine.

BEN groaned, "Why do I bother?" And he walked off, at least I hope. I couldn't see because my eyes were closed, getting lost in the stars from Jim's kiss.
