Chapter 16: "We need to talk "

Everyone tried to stay calm. Darlene was leaning her face on the window eyes closed. The car was dead silent except for Bens heavy breathing. I sat on the back seat my eyes filled with vanity. I was surprisingly  tired, my heart beat was slow and my substance is calm. My knuckles turned white as I squeezed the water bottle in my hands. The air turned hot and I couldn't breathe. All I could hear was the tire drone  as we were driving on the road. We didn't talk, we didn't even look at each other until Ben opened his mouth.

"We need to discuss about this... " He said. His voice broke the silence. I took a deep breath.

"I can't believe this. First my sister and now you...  This can't be happening. " Darlene said her eyes still closed. 

"Look we can figure this out okay? " Ben said raising his voice and trying to sound confident. He looked at me from the front seat. I didn't look back at him, my eyes were locked on the trees passing my window. 

"I'm praying for god... " Darlene whispered.

The car started to make me uncomfortable. I couldn't just sit there and do nothing. Ben turned into our driveway. 

"I'm just going to take a small walk outside. " I said and got out from the car. They didn't even say anything back at me. I saw Mariel outside with the boys. I started to walk a little faster this time my eyes starting to fill with tears. Soon I started to have problems with breathing and I found myself running away from our neighbourhood. 

"Calm down... " I whipsered to myself. My voice is shaking alot. 

"Mia! " I heard Mariels voice. She ran up to me. I sat on the ground holding my face in my hands. "Mia are you alright?! " She fell right next to me and gave me a hug. I didn't hug her back, I don't even feel like talking right now but she needs to know.

"Girl you can't just disappear like that! And where were you with Ben and Darlene? Why didn't you answer your phone? And why didn't you come and hang out with us, Matt was really sad! " So many questions. I didn't feel like answering to her.

"Hello? Mia why do you look like you have got shot with a bullet!? Tell me what's going on! " She inquired.

"I... I don't... " My voice shattered. I couldn't say it.

"What? " 

"I don't feel too good. "

"Yes I know that. Now tell me what's going on please! " She started to get frustrated. I took a deep breath. 

"I really don't know what to say or how to say it. " I really don't. My body started to shiver, I don't want to bawl in front of her. I pulled my hair and tried to take deep breaths. 

"I have the same type of cancer my mom had. It's been there for a long time and it's widespread. If I won't take the chemotherapy I will die in less than 6 months. " I said it fast without thinking. Mariel sat there covering her face with her hands.

"Leukemia...? " She whispered. I looked at her and her eyes were filled with water. She came even closer to me and pulled me into a hug. I can't stand the silence, yes I understand they don't know how to react but just sitting here and crying is not making it any better. My life has came to it's ending and there is nothing I can do. After crying alot I feel pretty tired, in some way I like it, though after crying for hours it starts to hurt my head, my eyes, my heart, my everything. 

After 45 minutes or so I got up from the ground. Mariel is a emotional wreck. We started to walk back to our house. Suddenly Mariel stopped walking. 

"What are you going to say to Matt? "
