Chapter 9: First everything

It's 6pm. I'm texting with Sarah. Suddenly I got homesick and that made me think about my mother. I really do miss her. I haven't thought about her for a while... She always knew how to make me happy, I wish I could tell her everything about Virginia, Matt, Mariel, my new school and about my life in America. My eyes started to drown in tears. I realized  I'm never going to see her again and it's killing me.

I see my mom standing in front of the hospital. She's smiling at me. I can't feel my legs nor my arms. I want to go run and hug her, but it feels like I'm not even existing. She's wearing a white robe and her hair is falling perfectly on her shoulders. 

"Mom! " Can she hear me? She reached her hand out looking at my eyes with peace.

Suddenly her face fell. She turned around and saw a man in black take her hand. She seemed so sad. Then she turned around and went back inside.

"No mom don't go! Mom wait! " I tried to yell but my voice is too weak. The tears blur my vision. I can't see anything. Somebody is shaking my shoulder. 

I gasped for air. Mariel's standing next to me with her hand on my body. My body is shaking roughly and my forehead's sweating cold water.

"Shh It's okay, it was just a bad dream. " Mariel said calmly. My heart is beating extremely fast and I'm still in a shock.

"Thanks for waking me. " I said to her and closed my eyes again trying to take deep breaths.

The next morning I woke up with sun shining to my face. Today Matt is going to to take me on a date. I grabbed my phone, It's already 1pm which means I have 5 hours to go until he picks me up.

I got up and looked into the mirror. Maybe I should cut my hair, it's getting so long. After shower I painted my nails black and decided to wear a floral top and ripped high-wasted shorts. I went downstairs. Ben is sitting in the livin groom watching sports with Jake. I heard Darlene's voice from the kitchen, she's talking to Mariel.

"Where were you last night? You came home around 4am! " Darlene asked Mariel. Seemed like Mariel was in trouble. I didn't know what to do but I couldn't just stand and eavesdrop them. 

"Morning. " I said and went to the fridge. 

"Good morning Mia, feel free to take something to eat honey. " Darlene said to me. She was sitting in the table with Mariel. Mariel seemed quiet. 

"Mariel you can't sneak out like that! " Darlene continued.

"I'm sorry mom okay?  " Mariel said to her. "It's not going to happen again. " She got up from the table and went to her room. I was actually quite confused. 

"What's going on? " I asked Darlene.

"Mariel snuck out last night. " 

"With who? " I didn't know Mariel was out yesterday. 

"With Jack. " Jake said. Did he mean Jack from the party?

"Jack Gilinsky? " I lifted my eyebrows.

"Yup. " Jake said popping the p. 

I didn't know anything about Mariel and Jack. 

"Okay I need to go to work now, you kids stay out of trouble. " Darlene said and kissed Jakes cheek. "Bye! " 

I climbed upstairs to check on Mariel. 

"Mari can I come in? " I knocked her door. 

"Come in. " I heard her voice say. I walked in and saw her sitting legs crossed on the bed.
