I was woken up by the sounds of fists banging on the door. My brain repeatedly tried to block the noise out.
We all started to get dressed and start a new day in our apocalypse when Dominic screamed. He ran out with a bubbly red rash all over his left arm and up his chest.
"It's from the green mist, I knew that stuff was dangerous. How the hell do you think those people turned like that? Am I going to turn like they did?"
"Honestly Dom, I'm not sure, but everyone needs to check for this rash we were all near the window," I said.
So everyone took turns checking themselves and everyone came back negative, thank God. Now I just had to figure out what to do with Dom. I had no idea how to fix him. This rash came from a toxic substance, and we have and know nothing to treat that. So I instructed him to take a hot shower. While he was doing that I looked for some rash cream, to treat whatever is on him. I also found him new clothing to put on, so he didn't have those chemicals still on him. That was the best thing I could do for him. Everything was left to his body's immune system.
Michelle came up to me and asked in a whisper, "Lee, do you think Dom is contagious? That looks serious what he has."
"I don't know yet. I'm not a doctor but I picked a few things up from my mom's room. I say we treat him until the day he drops."
"Lee, you have to think about the safety of the group. We see you as a leader so you're going to have to make those hard decisions."
"Well, I guess your right. I hate when your right. I know it's the best thing we can do, so at least let's give him three more days."
"That sounds fine but we should quarantine him until then."
"Fine, but I don't know why I feel like I lost this conversation," I said.
"He is your friend and it's a horrible decision no matter what," she said.
"Thanks, Michelle, you help me see when my emotions get in my way, and I can't thank you enough for that."
While I and Michelle were finishing our conversation, Dominic came out of the shower.
"Just let me tell him what we're doing, please," I said.
"I have no objections to that as long as you do tell him," Michelle said insistingly.
"I will. Just give me some time to do it."
So we continue our day as normal as possible. When I heard the banging again I must have muted it out with all that was happening. I feel like I'm going crazy having to listen to that over and over again. When Dominic approached me saying, "Lee I'm sorry for all of this. It's all my fault. The rash, the soulless banging on the door nonstop, I just wanted to apologize."
"Dude it's okay, honestly I barely even notice it."
He could tell I was lying, he saw the expression on my face as I had said it, he knew. This is a perfect opportunity to tell him the plan though, how we're kicking him out in less than seventy-two hours.
"Dom just gets some rest and I'll check on your condition in the morning."
"Alright, whatever you say, Lee."
I start making some lunch because I have been running empty all day and today is just wearing me down. I make everyone a BLT sandwich except Dom, who actually managed to fall asleep. I check my cell phone, still no reception, this is all just so aggravating: Dom's rash, Michelle made me the unofficial official leader and that wretched banging. It's all just too much for me to handle, I'm only fifteen. So I decided I'm going to take a break, I go to the bathroom and lock the door. I just wanted to get away from it all and when I saw myself in the mirror I was shocked. My long dark brown hair is all tangled up, I have bags under my eyes bigger than my eyes themselves, and I just look horrible. Daniel is banging on the door asking if he can come in, guess my time is over, I walk out and Daniel ask me if everything is okay, and I just walked past him blowing him off. When night starts to fall I could not be any happier, I lay down and actually fall asleep, the banging isn't that bad anymore not that I can actually sleep. We all woke up the next day with a letter where Dominic was sleeping it read.
Guys, I can't stay here anymore, I'm too much of a risk for you all. I could infect any of you our turn into one of them, a soulless and I just can't do that to any of you guys. I took my rations and went out the back window, I made sure to close it immediately. Lee I'm going to try and get those soulless away from the house. Please wish me the best maybe one day I can come back.
              Sincerely Dominic,
P.S Lee, I took your kayak, don't be mad goodbye, my friends.
I can't believe he is actually gone, I feel like my soul just split in two, our world has done this to one of my best friends, it will pay.
