Since they met, Mike had considered him and Eleven finding each other fate. To him, it was written in the stars. They were both in the same forest, at the same time, both in search of something. Mike, in search of his best friend and El, in search for a home. Instead, they found each other and they would forever be thankful. When El left, Mike held onto this. Every night when he called her, he would sit in the fort thinking about how he and El were meant to be. He had faith, faith that the stars would bring them back together. He carried it with him until she finally walked through that door, and fate brought them back together.

Mike and El were sitting in his room, studying for English. They were currently looking at Romeo and Juliet, and El was engrossed in the book. (As soon as she was taught to read, it was all she ever did. She loved getting lost in a book and she would often spend all day reading) She came across a word she was unfamiliar with. "Mike, what is 'fate'?" She asked, looking at him inquisitively. He shuffled over to her, this was going to be difficult to explain. "Fate is... Well, Fate means something was meant to be. Like, its written in the stars. When something happens out of your control and changes your life. Usually it's a big event, or meeting someone. It's almost always a good thing. Romeo and Juliet's fate was that they met each other that night and got the chance to find their true love"He said carefully, trying to explain it as simply as he could. They sat in silence for a bit. "We're fate" El said suddenly, making Mike jump. He then blushed when he realised what she had said. "You-you think?" he stuttered. El shook her head "I don't think, i know. I could've found anyone out there in the rain or I could've found no one. But I found you. We are meant to be. Written in the stars" Her face lit up as she spoke, and Mike swore he could see flickers of gold in her hazel eyes, making her all the more beautiful. "Yeah, we were" he smiled at her, hugging her tight and kissing her, thankful for fate and the stars that brought him the love of his life.

Fate played a part in more than just their meeting. The night Mike proposed he had planned asking her in a beautiful garden of white roses but somehow, they found themselves in the pouring rain in the forest where they first met. And it couldn't be anymore perfect. And when their children ask them for the proposal story, Mike smiles as El explains how it was fate that Mike's car broke down on Mirkwood, knowing that their love was written in the stars.
