Warning: A couple f bombs ahead.

Mike and El were in the living room of the Hopper's new house. They were listening to a mix-tape from Will and studying for their Chemistry final. It had been almost 2 years since El returned, and they were both infinitely happy. Despite this, Mike couldn't shake the thoughts that had been bothering him since an encounter with Troy a couple weeks ago.

"Well, if it isn't frog face Wheeler. I see Jane isn't with you, she finally come to her senses and ditch your shit-show?" Troy sneered, shoving Mike against the wall of the courtyard.

"Don't talk shit about my girlfriend Troy." Mike exclaimed as he tried to leave, not in the mood to argue, he had already heard enough of it from his parents that morning.

"It's a free country Mikey boy, I can talk about whoever I  want. I was just curious whether she'd left yet. Y'know, realised that dating the same guy since you were 12 is the stupidest fucking thing she could do, especially when it's a dweeb like you. I'm definitely interested in her Wheels, if you know what I mean."  Troy sneered as he stepped closer.

"Fuck off Troy." Mike yelled as he dodged Troy's fist and ran to Biology.

Mike knew it was stupid. He knew Troy was just trying to get under his skin like he always did, but it had got him thinking. Was he holding El back? Was she only with him because he was the first person who'd been kind to her? Did she want to leave but felt guilty? Did she feel trapped? He didn't want her to feel obligated to be with him. He'd always wanted her to have a choice.

"Earth to Mike!" He jumped as El snapped her fingers in front of his face. "What?" He asked, confused. "I was just talking about seeing Stand By Me on Saturday and you didn't say a thing when I asked if you were free." El exclaimed, walking over and sitting beside him on the couch. "Sorry El. Um, yeah I'm free." He stated. El frowned slightly and grabbed his hand. "Okay, I wasn't going to say anything, but you've been acting weird for almost 2 weeks now. What's going on Mike?" He sighed and shook his head. "Nothing El. Really. It's all good." He said, the dejection evident in his voice. "Mike. I know you better than anyone, and I'm not buying this bullshit. Tell me. I love you and I hate seeing you this way." He sighed and squeezed her hand, a troubled look coming over his face. "I love you El. I love you and I've always loved you and I always will love you but- I've just been wondering. Do you feel like you have to stay with because I'm all you've ever known?  I mean, I don't want you to leave, ever, but if you're feeling trapped I don't want you to stay. The last thing I'd ever want to do is hold you back. I mean, you're smart, and hilarious, and beautiful and you could be like everything other teenage girl instead of being in such a serious relationship. You shouldn't be weighed down by me. You could go- go be normal, go date guys who don't look like frogs and-"

"Mike." El cut off his tangent, cupping his face in her hands. He could feel his face heating up. She gazed into his eyes, her hazel ones boring into his chocolate brown. "I know there's other people. I know there's a whole sea of people out there. But I don't care how many people are out there. I'll ignore everyone of them because I want you. I've always wanted you. So I don't want to be normal, I don't want to date another guy, I don't want to leave, because I've wanted you, and only you, since I was twelve years old. And you are not holding me back, Michael Wheeler. You complete me. With you I'm everything I could ever hope to be."  They sat in silence for a couple moments, just sitting together. "I love you El. You have no idea how much I needed to hear that." "I'd say it everyday if I had to." She smiled as she leaned in. They were so close she could count his eyelashes, and see his cheeks reddening. He closed the space between them and melted into her lips. She soon pulled away and snuggled up beside him, pulling out her Chemistry book and trying to tame those familiar butterflies that were wreaking havoc in her stomach.

Hopper found them asleep on the couch a couple hours later when he got home. He just rolled his eyes and sighed. This was usual behaviour. "Kids!" he yelled. They both jolted awake, turning to look at him sleepy eyed. "It's nearing 6. I gotta take you home Mike." Mike just nodded as El made a whiny noise. "Say goodbye kid. I'll be in the car." He exclaimed as he walked out the front door. Mike stood up, grabbing El's hand and helping her up. He embraced her quickly, burying his face in her shoulder as she buried hers in his neck. "Mike." she said, slightly muffled. "Yeah?" he mumbled. She pulled back and cupped his face with one hand as she rested the other over his heart. "It's you. It's always been you." He just beamed at her, bending down to kiss her. She could feel him smiling against her lips. He pulled away and grabbed his bag and coat. "I love you El Hopper!" he yelled as he ran towards the car. "I love you more Michael Wheeler!" she beamed as he jumped in the car and waved furiously until the car disappeared around the corner.
