Adrianna POV

Time seemed to be moving too fast , and I didn't like how fast it was fleeting. We had sent bilbo to keep an eye on the orcs who had gained on us in the few days past. I sat on a rock , listening to the companies hushed bickering. Some of the dwarves thought bilbo would be caught , while others were bragging about how light on his feet he was. I rolled my eyes , sick of the constant arguing. I listened and smelt the air , taking it I to my mouth to taste. I could hear the Orc pack close by ; the wargs growling and the orcs snarling at one another. I could smell their pungent stench , slithering through the wind like snakes. But there was something else...

I froze as I caught a slight whiff of the other scent. Was that? No it couldn't be , I saw them take off his head! I stood abruptly , wide eyes searching for the face I was terrified to see. Suddenly , bilbo appeared back in the small clearing , gasping for breath. Something wasn't right...

"How close is the pack?" Thorin demanded , looking at bilbo.

" Too close, couple of leagues, no more. But that's not the worst of it." Bilbo said urgently , looking back the way he came.

"Have the Orcs picked up our scent?" Dwalin growled , looking at the hobbit angrily.

" Not yet, but they will do. We have another problem." Bilbo whimpered , his face pale. I froze , there was more. Something else was out there , I could feel it coming closer.

"Did they see you?-" Gandalf demanded , not even allowing bilbo to answer before jumping to conclusions"-They saw you."

" No, that's not it." Bilbo cried , becoming frustrated.

" Good, what did I tell you? Quite as a mouse. Excellent burglar material." Gandalf told us , sound very pleased with himself. I rolled my eyes at his smug looking face , and scented the air once more. It was getting closer...
The dwarves began talking amongst themselves , agreeing ( some reluctantly ) with Gandalf. I looked back at bilbo , he had so thing more to say.

"Let him speak!" I snarled , silencing the group , before looking at bilbo expectantly.

" Thank you...Adrianna. I'm trying to tell you there is something else out there." Bilbo cried , throwing his hands up.

" What form did it take? Like a bear?" Gandalf asked , moving forward.

'No...he wouldn't keep something like that from me...would he?'

" Ye...Yes, but bigger. Much bigger." Bilbo stuttered , his eyes nervous. We all looked at Gandalf.

"No..." I all but whispered , sitting down shakily on the rock I had before.

" You knew about this beast?" Gloin gasped , eyes brows disappearing to his hair line.

"He's alive" I whimpered to myself , putting a hand to my face. Gandalf did not answer Gloin , instead he turned to me , thinking.

" I say we double back." Bofur piped up , heading back the way we came.

" We'll be run down by a pack of Orcs." Thorin growled , placing a hand on his fore-head.

"Why...Why did you keep this from me?" I snarled at Gandalf.

" There is a house, it's not far from here, where we might take refuge." Gandalf ignored me , turning to the others.

" Whose house? Are they friend or foe?" Thorin asked , hope shining in his eyes.

" Neither. He will help us or he will kill us." Gandalf replied solemnly.

"He will kill us , are you mad?!" I bellowed a Gandalf , betrayal and hurt shingling in my eyes.

"What choice do we have?" Thorin growled at Gandalf , looking him in the eye.

Suddenly , a terrifying , familiar roar exploded nearby. My blood became ice and drained from my face , he was alive.

" None." Gandalf cried before taking off in the opposite direction.

The others followed close behind , while I stood waiting to see the truth. Then I saw him , a huge black bear with deep , fury-filled eyes and rippling muscles.

My grandfather.
