Part 13 (Prison)

"The Council?" Wendy asked as she saw the rune knights behind the frog.

The frog-man cleared his throat before he said. "Yes. We are here to arrest Natsu Souleater for destroying public property in Clower town."

It took some seconds before the news got processed by the members.

"What!?"

All the Fairy Tail mages stared at the frog-man in disbelief. None of them said anything, but the shock of his statement was clear on their faces. So they stood there in complete silence before an assault of angry comments were shouted at him.

"What are you talking about!? He killed the demon!" Erza yelled at the frog outraged.

"Yeah, man what the hell!? If he hadn't taken down Lullaby, we and our guild masters wouldn't be here!" Gray protested as all of Fairy Tail shouted behind him in agreement. The frog-man on the other hand just looked at them calmly and nodded, like a parent to his or her tantrum-throwing child.

"What you say is true, but he destroyed Oshibana station and the meeting hall." The frog-man calmly stated, only to get another wave of protest thrown back at him.

"Oshibana station was destroyed by Eisenwald!" Lucy objected angrily to the councilman.

"Yeah! Natsu is innocent!" Gray said, behind him all of the guild, save from the ones on the mission added mentally. 'In this case at least.'

"If I'm not mistaken, then I'm pretty sure I restored the meeting hall, sir." Y/n said in a polite tone to the man, ignoring the ruckus her guild mated caused in favor of having a civil conversation.

"That is true, but we can't leave out the fact that many people got scarred for life by the incident-" The council member said as he raised an eyebrow. Lucy opened her mouth to reply, but the frog-man continued. "Which is why he has to be put in jail."

"So some scared people got their feelings hurt, and Natsu has to go to jail for it? Like hell that's fair!" Gray said, arm already coated in a thin layer of ice. Although he didn't get along with Natsu, he would always stand up for a guild member if they were treated unfairly.

"I have to admit that going to jail for something like that seems like an overreaction by the council," Carla said, floating over to the frog-man.

"But we were all there!" Wendy objected, pushing past Gray to stand right in front of the council representative. "Shouldn't we also bear some of the consequences?"

Despite asking the question Wendy was scared. Not for the council, but at the fact that Natsu was being taken away from her. Ggrandeeney leaving was hard enough. So having Natsu leave her would absolutely crush her.

Natsu looked at Y/n and his adoptive sister, glad that they stood by him as always. He knew how much they cared for him, and they knew how much he cared. So looking at them now, especially Wendy, it set off a long-dormant emotion in him.

Guilt.

A small pang of guilt was rising in his heart before he mercilessly destroyed it.

Natsu promised that he would find their parents together with Y/n. However, both he and Y/n knew the truth as to what happened, Wendy didn't. So how could they tell her that they knew where Grandeeny was? Unfortunately, the answer was simple.

It was forbidden, the violation of the dragon council's rules was punished by death, and both him an Y/n knew it. If they told her before the correct time came, they'd leave Wendy alone in the world.
