"My, that looks interesting", her changing voice breathed into my ear.
I tried my best to ignore the daemon as I tied the spell around me.
A week without sleep. A week of terror.
Blood everywhere.
Dead bodies around every corner.
Silence that just couldn't be broken.
Jezebel stared at me through my reflection in the mirror.
Her hair was now raven black, her eyes lilac with no pupils. Her legs were not human, but from a horse.
"A secretive spell. You truly are Genevieve's ancestor." She circled me, forcing me to take a step back so she wouldn't brush Esme. Jezebel got only closer.
I slapped her now smaller hand away from my stomach. "Don't you have anything better to do?"
"Where is sweet Thomas?", Jezebel cupped my chin with her two fingers. "Or Anna's sister? Delano had killed Maria some time ago, I want to check on the girl."
"I have no clue who you are talking about", I raised my head at her.
"When will Mother Shadow come again? Where's my sweet Genevieve?"
"Yesterday you told me you see it all."
"I remember no such thing", she shrugged, resting her chin on my left shoulder. "Amuse me, child. This house has grown quite boring since my last few visits."
"I can show you some place new. Just go back into the book and I'll sell you to another witch."Jezebel's laugh made me shift on my spot.
"No can do."
"What amuses you then?"
"Do you have to ask?", her smile got twisted. "Suffering. Torture. Struggle."
"I can't give you that." Jezebel smiled, then twirled away from me."I wonder what your child will be."
"Healthy", I gave up on the spell and faced her.
She sat on my bed. "Not what I mean, silly witch." Jezebel laid down. "A housewife? A nurse? A midwife? A teacher?"Jezebel stared at me as I didn't respond. "You didn't really think you would escape this era?"
"You said I would." "
You are truly thick to believe a daemon's word." She extended her arm towards me. "Think about it my dear. For once, I shall mean what I speak. Do you really think you will return to your time?"
"Of course, I do."
"You can't even break through her spying spell, the weakest spell in her arsenal. Baldwin hadn't even bothered saving you.""If I can't break through the magic, neither can he."
"Oooor", she played with her straight hair. "he has given up on you and accepted this. You've seen what he's like. He travels a lot, he is quite a figure. Even I have to admit he is good-looking." The chandelier in my room started shaking rapidly back and forth and hit the ground.Jezebel smiled sweetly at it. I heard people screaming outside. My blood froze. My body went cold.
"Are you suggesting he found somebody else and left me behind?"
"Do you really think he wouldn't do that? All alone, slowly driven crazy without a woman. No purpose on staying here without you. He doesn't need anything, unlike you."
