"Rebecca", Genevieve found me before I could find her. "I need you to do a favour for me."

"Oh?", I swirled around to her.
Thank god I wasn't near the hidden staircase to the third floor, or else she might have grown suspicious.

I sensed Esme underneath me, taking her herbology class with Diane. I also sensed how bored she was, and had to hide my smile. She was safe, that's what mattered.

"I need you to go into town. Take Thomas with you so you do not get lost." Genevieve handed me a folded paper. "You know best when it comes to magical objects, I saw you choosing the best objects in Prof Ashcroft's class; so, I'm trusting your choices on this. Whitlock will wait by the door and give you some money."

"Why not send him?", I raised my brow.

"Because you need more social contact. I can see your arm growing black again."
That reminded me.
"When will Mother Shadow come visit me again?"

"At her earliest convenience."

Liar.

Genevieve's eyes widened.

It was me who had felt her lie; not my magic, not my familiar.

"Alright then", I lied as well. "I'm off to pick my daughter up so we can go into town."
"Esme can stay here."
"She cannot; or, let me express myself differently, I'm not leaving her behind here with your people."

Genevieve's mouth shut close.
"Thank you", I imitated a disgustingly sweet voice and projected a fake smile onto my face.

Esme was beyond joy she could accompany me. "I was so bored mama!"
"I felt that, tesoro", I brushed her hair and braided it quickly. "That's why mama came to get you."
"You are the best", Esme beamed, pressing a kiss against my cheek as I was done with her hair. I quickly got us dressed and let go of Esme's hand. "Go find Thomas, will you?"

My daughter sprinted down the hall to get her best friend. Esme always knew where everybody was, so I had no reason to search for the daemon boy.

Not even five minutes later she returned with Thomas.

Whitlock silently eyed the children next to me as he pressed the bag into my hand. "If anything happens, you can find Madame's guards are at the main plaza."
"Understood." I tucked away the bag and extended my hands to the children. "Come on, take my hand let's go."

Thomas silently stared at my hand, then took it with an embarrassed expression. The 14-year old daemon boy was now in his puberty, and that thing was just embarrassing to him.
"You don't have to hold my hand the whole time, ok?" A relieved 'thank god' came over his lips.

He lead us into the city, Luna Coeruleus as he had called it, with secure steps.
"Why is it called azure moon?", Esme asked as Thomas let go of my hand.
Thomas thought about it for a second.

"Some say the first witch who discovered the underground witch city saw an azure moon on her first night here. Some say she might have seen Neptune, other's say it was a sign from the Goddess", the quirky young man explained.

"Why blue and not her colour, mama?", Esme turned to me.
"Blue is the colour of both the sky and the sea, it's also calming, serene and mysterious. Maybe she wanted us witches to feel calm here, hidden away from the others."
