You were always moving around because of your parents' jobs. Though you moved a lot, one thing that stayed with you was your passion for dancing.
You convinced your mom to let you take a ballet class when you were little so you could hang out with your friend, (F/n). From that day forward, you loved to dance. Any dance there was, you had learned it. Your favorite was jazz, but you loved them all. You had to move away from your hometown, because your parents. But recently, you found out you had to move back.
You friend talked you into joining the dance academy she was in. It was titled "The Ultimate Dance Academy" in your entire hometown. It was called The (H/t) dance academy, simple enough.
When you arrived on Monday, you already had classes that night, thanks to pre-registering. Today is Tuesday, and from the night before, you already had a duet, a solo, and a lead in a group number. You were that good. Today you had a partner dance class and a couple others with breaks between each class. You had just gotten home from school, and you were running late.
Your teacher, Ms. Farrer, was taking role call. Lance was just thinking about the rumors that were going around. That there was a new girl, and she's really good. Maybe as good as me! He thought. He was one of the best, but he got a little arrogant at times.
"(Y/n)? Is (Y/n) here?" Ms. Farrer asked. Just then, you burst through the door. "Not the best impression to leave on your second day, Miss (L/n)." Ms. Farrer joked. "I'm sorry. I was running a bit behind." You said, giving a shy smile and rubbing the back of your neck nervously. "No worries. We were just starting roll call." She replied with a reassuring smile. You let out a sigh of relief, and walk over to where (B/f) was standing. You made sure to have some classes with her.
Lance was shocked. That's the new girl?! He thought. He admired how you got your (H/c) hair in a tight yet messy ballet bun. He liked how your (E/c) eyes shimmered in the light. How your (F/c) leotard And Black dancer shorts hugged your figure. He thought you were beautiful.
"Now then, we'll start with a simple tango, then next class we'll get into waltzing." Ms.Farrer said. You nodded. You had done this many times before, and you were really good. Lance was too busy starring at you, without you noticing. He was snapped out of his trance when Ms. Farrer called your name, and he gave his attention back to her.
"(Y/n)," She said. "You will be partners with Lance." She finished. She pointed her pen at Lance, so you knew who she was talking about. Your eyes met Lance's. Ms. Farrer kept assigning partners, but you didn't hear her. You already gotten lost in his eyes.
He was gorgeous in your eyes. He had chocolate brown hair and matching eyes, which you could get lost in for days on end if you weren't careful. He gave you a small smile and a wave. You returned the gestures.
When you finally managed to tear away your gaze from the boy, Ms. Farrer has finished calling out the pairs, and everyone was finding their partner. You slowly walked towards Lance. "Hiya! I'm (Y/n)!" You said and held out your hand. He took it in his. "I'm Lance!" He said.
Ms. Farrer had instructed you all some basic steps which you were used to doing. But every time you went to do it, you'd trip over your own two feet. You don't get it. You danced with plenty of cute guys before, so what was so different?
Lance was thinking about how wrong the rumors were about you. You weren't good. At all. An awkward tension was between you two the entire class. Finally when it was over, you approached him.
"Hey, uh, sorry, about class. I'm not usually that bad." You said, chuckling nervously. "I guess I'm out of my forte. So, can we practice later?" You ask. "Sure." He says. "How about 5:30? Studio C?" He suggests. "Perfect! Catch ya later!" You said and walked away.
You had a practice session with your partner for the duet at the moment. Some guy named Leo, in studio C. You were practicing a tango routine, to the song "Trouble Maker". So far it was going really well, and that made you more confused. So, You could do all the steps, just not with Lance?
But what you didn't know was that Lance got there 10 minutes early, and was watching you in awe through the one-sided glass. How is she that good?! She was terrible in class! He thought. The footsteps walked up beside him. It was (B/f).
"Hey Lance!" They said. Lance and (B/f) had been friends for a while now, about 4 years. "Hey (B/f)! What's up?" He asked, not taking his eyes off you. "Just wanted to let you know that (Y/n) HATES flirting." They responded and shrugged. "Wait, how do you know?" Lance asks, finally looking at them. You were still too focused on dancing to notice them.
"I've been her friend since we were kids. I was actually the one who convinced her to come here." They replied. Lance just thought about what they said. "Well, I gots to go, see ya!" They call. Lance turns back in time to see you and Leo strike your finishing pose; your arms by your side, his hands on your waist, and your faces just inches apart. You caught your breath, then you both went to grab your water bottles.
"You coming?" Leo asked heading to the door. "Nah, my next practice is in here." You say. He nods. "Alright. See ya, (Y/n)!" He called and left. You chugged about one half of your water, before you heard the door open again. You turned to see Lance there, setting his water and his bag down, then walking over to you.
"Hey (Y/n)." He said. "You saw our routine, didn't you?" You asked right off the bat. He only nods and smiles. "It's funny, I'm only off my game when I'm with you." You say. Then you realize what you said, and you both turn a bright pink, and look away. "You're really good." He said, when he had enough awkward silence. "Thanks.." You reply, still refusing to make eye contact.
"Let's just work on our dance." Lance says, breaking the tense atmosphere. "Yeah, can we go over the 3-step dip? Because if I recall, I tripped and fell on my face." You say, and you both laugh. "Yeah, totally." He responds.
After a little while, there is no more awkwardness between you two. You were just joking around, and it was nice. "Alright, lets take it from the top!" You say and walk over to your phone that is plugged into the speakers. "Then I can take you on the bottom~"
You stop dead in your tracks at his remark. You were surprised. You didn't think he was the type. You turn around to face him, both of your eyes were as wide as saucers. Then, you started laughing, which only shocked and confused him even more.
"Ahahaha, sorry. Pick-up lines crack me up!" You say, after your laughing fit. "But your friend told me that you hated pick up lines?" He asked. "Who? (B/f)? They do that all the time. They think I'm pretty, so any guy she's interested in, they tell him that I hate something about them. It's pretty funny, actually." You reply. "Why didn't you tell me sooner!? I have so many more!" "You didn't ask." You responded with a shrug.
After a practice filled with dancing and pick-up lines, you decided to call it a day. You and Lance were quite good friends now, but you liked him as something more. "Hey (Y/n)?" He asked. "What's up?" You say slinging your bag over your shoulder. "Can I have your number? To, y'know, plan practices?" He asks, his face turning a light pink. You nod and take out a small piece of paper and a pen.
You wrote down your number, then thought for a moment before writing down a little note for him to read, your face dusting red. You put the pen in your bag, folded the paper and shoved it into his hands. "See ya!" You called and ran off, before he could read what you wrote.
You were in the parking lot, heading towards your car, when you hear a 'ding' from your pocket. You pulled out your phone and was shocked for two reasons. 1, it was Lance, and 2, it's what he said.
Lance; 'I like you too.'
