~after the funeral~
Myra P.O.V
After Bilbo and Gandalf left, I didn't want to be around anyone. I let everyone celebrate and enjoy themselves. I wasn't ready to hear Thorin, Kili and Fili being spoken in the past tense. To avoid dampening the mood, I felt that it was best to excuse myself. Instead of retiring to my room, I found myself walking to the crypt once more. It was empty which amplified each one of my steps.
I stood next to Thorin as I examined his features. He still looked like the same handsome dwarf I married. He was a bit paler but he was still in good shape. I knew that this wouldn't last for long. That thought terrified me, knowing that I would remain ageless while they all rotted away. I checked to see if I was alone before revealing my ring. I let my magic flow out to my hands as I muttered an ancient preservation spell. My hands glowed white like the stars as the spell was ready. I waved my hands in the direction of all three of them. They glowed for a moment before returning to their normal selves. The spell had worked which made me slightly happy. I concealed my ring again before kissing Thorin on the forehead. As I turned to leave, a dwarvish woman was at the steps.
"Who are you?" I asked as I discreetly grabbed my daggers
"My name is Dis, Kili and Fili's mother. Your sister-in-law." Sh answered which made me relax
"I'm so sorry. You startled me." I replied as Dis walked towards me
"It's okay. I'm glad that you had your guard up. Nice to know that my brother married a fighter." Dis said as she gave me a smile
"That was one of the reasons." I replied as the tears started again. "I'll leave you alone." I mumbled as I walked towards the exit. But, Dis grabbed my arm tightly enough to grab my attention.
"Please don't go. I've always wanted to meet the woman who fearlessly protected my children and brother to the end." Dis pleaded which made me lose all of my composure
"If I had done my job, they would all have been alive." I spat back as the tears streamed down my face
"If you had done that, you would have died." Dis sternly reminded me as she stared me down like Thorin. "They loved you to pieces, they all did. They would have never forgiven themselves if something happened to you. In your brief time together, you made my brother the happiest that he had been in decades. Losing you would have destroyed him. Knowing that you were pregnant, he would have lost all hope to continue. Don't think for a moment that anyone blames you for their deaths. They were stubborn and loyal to the end. If they could do everything a 2nd time, I know that they would have made the same choices without any regret."
"You're just as uncouth and honest as him. I guess its a familial trait." I joked as I began to dry my eyes
"I suppose so. But the real test will be when the little one comes." Dis eagerly said as she stared at my stomach
"I think you'll have to wait a while before testing your theory." I reminded her
"I still have plenty of time. I can't wait to spoil them. This is your Aunt Dis talking." Dis said towards my stomach
"I don't think that they can hear you yet." I chuckled before asking my question. "Why did you say they?"
"I have a good guess for these things. I correctly guessed those two meatheads. Also, people with twins in their family tend to have twins. Balin told me about your past." Dis answered
"Alright, I'll take your word. If you know who I am, then you'll know that these kids will be in grave danger the moment they're born." I reminded her
