Thorin P.O.V
After Myra left, we stayed in our bedroom. The kids nestled into my sides as I sat on the couch. The twins sat alongside them enjoying the peace. Balin stayed with us to keep us company while the others left to avoid suspicions."How has Myra been since we've been gone?" I asked as I stroked their little heads
"The first few years were hard but she managed. To everyone else, she was strong & collected, the ideal queen. Around us & her family, she was completely different. She missed you a lot & the twins of course. Her family kept close to help her through the pain." Balin explained
"She didn't deserve to face all of this alone. Has it been hard?" I replied as the guilt came over me
"A little. She was nervous about ruling but Dain was helpful. He helped get the other families behind us & actually maintained the peace. She's a natural just underestimates herself a lot." Balin said
"I'm suprised that he could be diplomatic. I never would have thought that he would be the one. I would have surely..." I said in untter amazement
"Thought it would be me. Haha, not a bad guess. Where I lack in brute strength, Dain can make up for it ten fold. He needs my charm to avoid making a mess of everything though." Balin chuckled which made me genuinely smile
"Much has changed since the battle. I think we all need a history lesson." I replied solemnly
"Right, it has been a while. You've all been gone for 5 years as of a few months ago. Bard is king of Laketown & has rebuilt in Dale with our help. He & Myra talk often since he's her closest friend. The old town is used as a harbour like old. Dain still rules the ironhills & hasn't changed much. All of Myra's people settled in a few months after the battle. Now, they all live here with ours & everything is calm. Who would have thought?" Balin informed me
"Even, I wouldn't have believed you. What about the others?" I chuckled as the kids nestled further in
"After the battle, we all went back home. Gandalf brought Bilbo back to the shire. They come whenever they have time, especially for parties. Her entire family came for the twins birthday last week. It was a nice celebration with everyone." Balin replied
"I'm glad that they were here for her. Even more so for the little ones. I'm grateful that they have such a large family." I said as the kids nestled further into me
"Now this is a beautiful sight." Balin said gesturing to the kids
"Yes it is. The greatest treasure. I just wish there were more times like this." I solemnly replied
"Now you have a second chance to make up for time lost. Lucky for you, they're still babies." Balin reminded me which made us laugh just as the doors opened
Elven guards entered the room to hold the door open. Myra's mother & Dis came in, ushering the guards out. Balin quickly got up & bowed.
"Your majesty, how may I be of service?" Balin happily asked
"I wish to speak to my son in law alone. Everyone is beginning to get curious. I think it is best if you & Dis make an appearance." Arahaeldis said
"Boys, I'll take you to your rooms. I know the back ways." Dis ordered them behind her big smile
"Of course ma'am. We'll leave you to it." Balin answered, signalling everyone to exit
"Would you like to sit?" I offered as I nodded at the opposite couch
"Yes, thank you." She said before silently sitting down. "I imagine you have many unanswered questions about our family."
