It's the fusion chapter I've been dying to write! Please enjoy! Also, her name is Sunstone. And she short. Like about as tall as Garnet.
The gems sat in the temple, finally home with Steven.
Sally sat by the door on the sofa, looking out the window. She could hear Sphalerite's voice every now and then. She was terrified that Sphalerite would get into her mind at any minute.
"Are you... Okay?" Pearl asked. Sally nodded. She still couldn't talk. She couldn't sleep, eat or anything except stare out the window.
Pearl sat down next to her and held her hand.
"I know you're scared, but Sphalerite can't get you. We won't let her." Pearl said.
"How can you even stop her?" Sally said, her voice quiet from not wanting to speak. "You can't even see her."
"We may not be able to see her, but we can tell the difference between you two. If she gets into your mind, we'll know." Pearl said. She pulled Sally into a hug. Sally rested her head on Pearl's shoulder.
"I'm scared. What if she can't be stopped? What will happen to the Earth? She's the strongest gem. She's stronger than Jasper. If I was able to keep control over our fusion even if I'm defective, then just imagine how strong she would be." Sally said. Pearl sighed.
"I know she's strong, but we're strong, too." Pearl said. Sally sighed and pulled off her visor. She stared at her reflection in it.
"If she does get inside me, then would I die?" Sally asked, not looking at Pearl. Pearl didn't know what to say. She may just die, they would lose Sally forever. And if they shatter Sphalerite, she would be master reseted. And she would lose her memory of the Crystal Gems. "Pearl?"
"I-I don't know..." Pearl said, looking down.
"Pearl, if I do die, I just want you to know that--" Sally was interrupted by Steven.
"Hey, everybody! I'm home!" Steven said. They hadn't told Steven about Sphalerite. They wanted to keep it a secret.
"Hey, Steven." Pearl waved, smiling a little.
"Where's Amethyst? I got the doughnut she wanted." Steven asked.
"She's outside." Pearl said. Steven nodded and went outside. "Now what did you want me to know?" Pearl asked. Sally sighed.
"It's not important." She said looking out the window.
"Just tell me." Pearl ordered. Sally turned to her.
"Uh... Um..." She was thinking of what to say besides what she had in mind. "Uh... It was nice living here with you guys?"
"Sally?" Pearl raised an eyebrow.
"I really do want to tell you! I do, but--" Sally was cut off by a voice.
'I see you.'
It was the voice inside her head. Sally screamed standing up.
"Get out of my head!" She yelled pulling her hair. She fell to her knees.
"What is it, Sally?!" Pearl asked. Garnet stepped out of her room.
"Get out! Get out! Get out!" Sally yelled.
'Don't force it, geez. You'll kill yourself. Literally.' She said.
"No! No! No! Get out of my head!" Sally yelled falling to the floor. "I can't take this anymore!"
'Don't worry. You won't have to deal with it much longer because you'll be dead!'
"AH!" Sally yelled. She got up and started running around, panicking. She was acting like a maniac.
"Calm down, Sally!" Garnet said.
"She's in my head! I can hear her! She's around here somewhere!" Sally said. Garnet picked her up and set her down on the sofa.
"She is not in your head." Garnet said. "We won't let her into your head. Now take a deep breath. I'll go out and see if I can find her. Even if I can't see her, I can still feel and hear her. She can't hide forever." Garnet said. "Pearl, stay inside and watch her." Garnet summoned her gauntlets and left.
Pearl turned to Sally. She looked bad. She was sweating and shaky. Her eyes showed terror. She was going through a lot.
"Does it hurt?" Pearl asked. Sally looked at her and nodded.
"Is she scary?" Pearl asked. Sally nodded again. "I'm sorry about all of this. About everything. About Lapis and you leaving, about you being on Homeworld, the ship, Bronzite, and earlier. Maybe if you just... Stayed away from us, you wouldn't have to deal with this stuff. You would be safe." Pearl said.
"But... I don't want to stay away. I like being with you guys. Sure, it's dangerous, but we always win. We always get to be with each other and cherish every moment. I never got things as good with Mom and Dad. Dad was always working, and Mom was always... Trying to figure out whether I even existed or not. I barely ever saw my parents, and when I did, I was so happy. Living here with you guys, I'm always with you guys. I'm always with you. And I'm happy about that." Sally said. Pearl smiled and pulled Sally into a hug.
"I know you're going through a lot right know, but..." Pearl pulled away. "Do you wanna try... Fusion... One last time? I know you're still trying to get over Bronzite but... Maybe this'll help..." Pearl said, her cheeks sky blue. Sally smiled.
"Sure. But, this is the last time I try it." She said. Pearl laughed a little taking her hand. They spun in slow circles, dancing. Pearl laughed and picked Sally up by her sides, twirling.
And the next thing they knew, they had fused.
* * *
It was dark out, and nobody was on the beach. The fusion decided to take this moment to step outside. She ran down the steps and onto the beach, cartwheeling. She played around outside, happy to exist. She laughed running around, playing.
Sitting on the beach, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She quickly twisted her head around and saw three gems. Garnet, Amethyst and Steven. Garnet was doing her same old happy-over-new-fusion smile. Amethyst gave her a thumbs up. Steven was smiling widely. The fusion gasped.
"U-Uh... I'll unfuse!" She said.
"No, wait! Don't!" Steven said taking her hand. "You're fine just the way you are."
"I can't believe you two finally fused. How does it feel, Sally?" Garnet asked.
"Amazing! It was difficult with Jasper. It was terrible. But this, this is amazing!" She said holding her orange dress-like shirt.
"What's your name?" Amethyst asked.
"Um... Uh..." She shrugged.
"How about Sunstone? It fits you." Garnet said placing a hand on her shoulder. She nodded. "We'll go for now." Garnet said pulling Amethyst and Steven away.
"Sunstone..." She mumbled to herself once alone.
'Oh, well this is just perfect!' a voice said. Sunstone gasped.
"Who is that?!" Sunstone yelled. "Sphalerite..."
'Who did you think it was? The gem reaper coming for your gem? Don't be ridiculous. It's your worst nightmare, Sphalerite.'
Pearl finally felt the pain Sally was going through. The horror of hear Sphalerite was terrible. She was getting to them, making them weak so she could take over.
Pearl pushed away Sally, causing them to unfuse. Pearl gripped her hair tightly, panting. She looked up to Sally, who held her hand out to Pearl. She took it.
"I-I'm so sorry." Sally said.
"For what?" Pearl questioned.
"Sphalerite got into your head, too. That means any of my fusions can hear her, too." Sally said.
"So... That means that they can see her, too!" Pearl said. A spark of hope lit up in Sally. "We just need to train you to use some of your powers, and then when we fuse, we can stop her!"
"You're right... We have to tell Garnet." Sally said.
