Narrator POV
You arrive to the library. It's small and looks like no one has been in there for years. You look around for some sort of non-fiction shelf but only find a few shelves against the wall. You walk over and start skimming the titles of the books, running your finger on all the spines as you read the titles. One catches your eye, it was a deep blue with golden letters on the spine of the book that said The fundamentals of time and space. You open the book and see that the pages are worn and really thin. You go to the back to see how many pages it was, you saw the page number 478. The font looked looked like it was typed on a document with a point 10 in times new roman. There were so many words on each page that it gave you a headache, but you felt the need to at least scan it for anything that might explain what was going on.
You flipped through the pages. Everything is simply talking about the passage of time until you see a page that has a large bold font at the top. You read it under your breath and smile, you may have just found the answer: Basics of Rifts and the Passage of Time in Other Dimensions.
You look to see how long the section is, and see that it's at LEAST 15 pages. At that rate with how small the font is, you know it is going to take an hour or so to read it. You didn't have a library card to check out the book though, so you looked around and held it close to your chest. You covered it as best as you could and casually walked out the door. No one would notice, and even if they did you planned to return it anyway.
When you got back to the shack, you ran upstairs and pulled out the book. You smiled, even though you basically just stole from a library, you were excited to figure out what was happening. You flipped through the pages until you got to the chapter you wanted and started to skim the pages. Dipper walks into the room.
"Oh, hey (y/n)! What are you reading?" You continue to read and hold up the book so he could read the title. He saw the library label on the spine. "Wait, how'd you check that out?"
"I didn't." You say matter-of-factly. Dipper thinks for a second.
"You STOLE IT?!" You nod. Dipper face palms. "That isn't okay. You could get in trouble!" You shrug and continue to read. You stumble across a sentence that catches your attention. You read it aloud to yourself.
"hmmmm... 'Depending on where someone is relevant to the space time continuum will cause time to pass differently, making some time in different dimensions go faster than that of another.'" Dipper raises an eyebrow at you. "What?"
You close the book and slide it aside. You think that you went to a different area in time, which is why time passed so quickly there. Or maybe time didn't exist there. You did remember reading something like that in the book. You sigh and think. If you could figure out how fast time passes, you could try to figure out how long you could be in the other dimension without raising suspicion by being gone for 5+ hours.
Dipper starts to put together the pieces. You were gone for long periods of time, you're reading a book on time and space... His face lights up and he quickly turns to you. "Have you been going into another dimension?!" You look at him surprised.
"Um.... what do you mean?"
Dipper stands up and starts to pace, "But how? How is that possible? Grunkle Ford's portal is completely destroyed and we got rid of it, and Bill wasn't with you..." He continued to ramble. You didn't know what to do. Dipper was talking fast and it was starting to give you a headache. You stand up and grab Dipper by the shoulders, forcing him to stop in his tracks. You look him in the eyes with a stern and serious look. He stops talking and forces his mouth shut. "You are not to tell anybody..." Dipper saw a fire in your eyes, like a threat saying if he dared to tell anyone there would be consequences. He quickly nods before speaking, "but...tell them what exactly?"
