The boy at the door

July 17th
Hamilton household

Phillip sat down at the dinner table. Neither Alexander or Eliza ever attended dinner anymore. So, in turn, it was only Angelica and the Hamilton children.

"So, Phillip, where were you all day?" Angelica teasingly asked, attempting to make conversation.

"The park." Phillip stated, poking his chicken with his fork.

"With his girlfriend!" James yelped.

"She's not my girlfriend." Phillip mumbled.

"What James and I saw in the park contradicts what you just said." Angie laughed. James mockingly made a kissy face.

"Oh really?" Angelica asked in a singsong voice. "Who is this 'mystery girl',?"

"Theodosia Burr!" John yelled.

"John! Shut your mouth!" Phillip whisper-yelled. Angelica stayed silent, raising a brow, smirking.

(Timeo skipo to aftero dinnero)

Phillip practically ran upstairs and into his room until his sister, Angie, stopped him.

"Hey, Pip, can I talk to you?" Angie asks in a hushed tone. "In private?"

Phillip nods, leading his sister into his bedroom. "What'd ya need?"

"What's really going on with you and Theodosia?" Angie asked her brother.

"Nothing." Phillip states, agervated.

Angie walks out of the room. "Keep on tellin' yourself that, Pip."

Burr household

My dearest, Theodosia,

I thoroughly enjoyed our time together at the park. I'm hoping we could do it again.

Theodosia sat at her desk reading the blunt letter. Is he okay? He seems anxious in the letter. Theo was shot back into reality by her father calling for dinner.

Theo skipped down stairs, coming to a halt when she saw a young man standing in the dining room. "Daddy, who is this?" she asked motioning to the unknown man.

"This, is Joseph Alston. He will be joining us for dinner."

"Hmh. Very well, but I feel as I must visit Phillip after dinner." Theo confidently stated.

"You saw him this afternoon, we talked about this..." Aaron complained.

"I know, but he seemed off in his letter, he is my best friend, father."

"I hate to intrude, but Phillip Hamilton? That boy is your best friend?" Alston asked.

"Yes. Phillip Hamilton. Is there a problem?" Theo snickered.

"No miss." Alston said awkwardly.

The three sat down at the dining room table, making small talk. "If I may ask, how did you and Phillip meet?" Alston asked.

"We were childhood friends, our mothers were close." Theo told him, taking a sip of her soup.

Alston nods. "Aren't you afraid he's going to leave you? Like Alexander?"

Theodosia's breath catches in her throat. "That was extre-" she starts, only to be cut off by a knock at the door. "I'll get it." she mumbles, wanting to get away from Joseph.
The fifteen year old opened the door, only to be greeted with a Phillip with damp eyes and blotchy, tear-stained cheeks. He didn't even have to say anything, because before he knew it Theo's arms were being wrapped around his own neck. "What the hell happened to you?" Theo asked, cupping Phillip's damp face in her hands.

"I-I couldn't t-take it-t anym-more." Phillip stuttered, sobbing.

"Take what, honey?" Theo asked. The 'honey' kinda slipped out. No going back now. She thought, her mind racing. In response Phillip just shoved his face into the crook of Theodosia's neck, loudly sobbing.

She slowly lead the crying boy into her home, trying not to disturb him. "Theodosia, what are you doing?" Aaron asked her gesturing to the boy limp in her arms.

"Sorry to cut dinner short, but I will be heading to my room. Good bye, Mr. Alston." Theo said, walking to the stairs, petting, Phillip's hair.

Joseph sent Aaron a confused look, stepping back into the dining room.
