chapter nine

Amanda

Alesha hadn't spoken much about what had happened to her when she spent the night at my house the night she was released from hospital. I knew she didn't want to from her body language and she didn't want me touching her that night either. My arm had accidently brushed up against her breast when we had been getting ready for bed and she stayed silent the rest of the night, not even telling me good night. I slept on the couch that night because I knew that I had to respect her wishes of me not being near her for now. She forgave me the next morning though and allowed me to hug her. I hadn't been able to see Alesha at all yesterday as she had been doing final preparations on her classroom for the first day of school which was today.

Lexi was bouncing off the walls while I was making breakfast and breastfeeding at the same time. I had gotten a baby sling that went across my body over one shoulder and Theo fit in it still so I could breastfeed. All I had to do was make sure he was supporting his head while he drank and he was latched on correctly. Lexi had seen me breastfeed Theo almost right after he had been born and put into my arms as I was wheeled back to my hospital room from the delivery room in my bed when Theo had been born. She was used to me breastfeeding in front of her but I usually warned her so she would know when I was about to do it.

I told Lexi to go pick out one of her new outfits and put it on while I breastfed and made her breakfast. I just made her a scrambled egg and a triangle of toast. I ate the other piece of toast while Lexi ate as I was planning on going running after doing the school run for Lexi. Theo stayed in the baby sling and he lifted his head off of my breast. He had been feeding off and on for twenty minutes, usually taking a minute to breathe and then resume feeding for five more minutes or so. I laid a kiss on Theo's head as I brought him into my bedroom. He wasn't sleeping through the night yet so most of his stuff was in my room. I had his clean laundry on my bed so I set him there while I grabbed a clean nappy, a changing pad, and wipes. He was getting smelly, making me be able to tell that he had gone to the bathroom while he was feeding. I took the sling off of my body and tossed it onto the bed. I put down the changing pad and I set Theo onto it and changed his nappy.

For once he didn't wee on me as I changed his nappy. He was practically falling asleep as I put him into a new onsie and sweatpants. Lexi came into my bedroom and looked at Theo on my bed. She made a funny face at him and he smiled a gummy smile. Theo had been smiling lately and he had been able to draw a few smiles out of Alesha whenever she came over to my house so I could be with her and Lexi and Azura could play. A week had passed since she had gotten raped and broke her wrist badly. She had come over to my apartment four times since it had happened, not including the night she had spend at my apartment when she had come home from the hospital.

"Are you ready to go, Mummy?" Lexi asked me. I picked Theo up and I cradled him in my arms I nodded.

"I want to take pictures when we get to your school, Lexi. Let's go then so I have time to do that," I replied. I herded Lexi out of the apartment with Theo's stroller and Theo in it. I locked the apartment door behind me and we headed out to my car. I quickly got the kids into the car and buckled in correctly.

Once we got to the school, I got parked quickly and I got Theo's stroller out while Lexi got out of the car and unbuckled her brother's car seat from the base. I put Theo and his car seat into the stroller and we walked up to the front doors of the school. I got my phone out and Lexi went to stand at the doors, smiling at me. I took the picture quickly and looked at it quickly. Lexi looked absolutely adorable and she held open the door for me so I could go in with Theo. We made our way down to Alesha's classroom and I reminded Lexi that she couldn't call Alesha by her first name while she was in class or at school at all because none of the staff or students knew that Alesha and I were dating.

Lexi nodded her head in understanding and she grinned as she walked into the classroom. There were only a couple of parents at drop off as we had left the house earlier than usual. Alesha spotted us and she came up and hugged me tentatively. I hugged her back and she released me from the hug. She then hugged Lexi and took Theo out of his car seat to hold him. Theo was absolutely crazy for Alesha and I couldn't tell why other than the fact that Alesha was a mother.

"Make sure that Lexi is good today, 'Lesha. She was off the walls this morning," I told Alesha.

"I'll make sure that no one gets too rowdy today anyways. Most of them are going to be shy because it's the first day," Alesha replied. She gave Theo a kiss and she put him back into his stoller, buckling him back in. She gave me a hug goodbye before I left and I didn't want to leave the classroom as I wanted to spend all day with Alesha like we had been doing the last week of summer hols.
