chapter twenty five

Amanda

Alesha was looking beautiful as she progressed with her pregnancy. She was six months along, which meant we had been dating for six months as well. Alesha had taken to coming over to my flat afterschool because I had arranged it with Simon that I was going to work at home for the rest of the afternoon after I left to go pick Lexi up.

I still brought Theo to daycare at Simon's record company and I would bring him home early. Alesha had bonded with Theo and he was babbling at her as she laid on her side playing with him while i was trying to work.

"Come on, say it again. Say it again," Alesha encouraged, Theo holding her finger in his hand. Theo had been babbling lately and he had said his first word recently, mamma, to me.

Theo was cooing at Alesha and babbling away, having a sort of little conversation with her.

"Mam, mam," he was babbling away. "Mamma." I watched Alesha's face light up with the fact Theo was calling her mamma as well. Alesha had been with me while I had been changing Theo's nappy a week ago when he said his first word to me. He hummed in contentment.

"He called me mama!" Alesha said excitedly. She got into a kneeling position and she picked Theo up. She gave him a kiss and she sat on the couch next to me with him in her arms.

"I heard him! He's been saying it whenever I mention you to him lately," I replied. Theo was in an awkward position on Alesha's lap due to her stomach size. She looked as though she was eight or nine months along, closer to her due date than she really was. She bounced him on her knee and he smiled at her. "He loves you so much, Alesha. Theo's going to be jealous when the twins are born."

I clicked on a new tab and I went to the house hunting site that Alesha and I had found earlier. We were still trying to find a big enough house in London that was close to both of our works and was in a good neighbourhood. I clicked on the house we were thinking about getting and I looked at the details of it again.

"Is that the house?" Alesha asked, leaning back to look at my screen. I nodded and I clicked through the pictures of the house.

"Five bedroom, one of which the wall dividing them was knocked down to create a large master bedroom," I listed off. "We could put that wall back up and the house would be big enough for everyone. And it's a council house so we can get it."

"We should go to the open house of it first before we say were getting it," Alesha replied. "Are we just going to look at the house by ourselves without children?"

"I would think so. That would be easier," I replied. Theo yawned and I shut my laptop without closing the tabs I had open on it. "I'll put him down for his nap and see what the girls are up to. They've been suspiciously silent."

Alesha handed Theo to me and I brought him into the bedroom that he shared with Lexi. Theo had been sleeping through the night for a while now so I could put him there. My flat wasn't big enough for everyone to be in for more than one night. It was cramped in Lexi and Theo's room when Alesha and Azura stayed the night after a date with Alesha.

Alesha's apartment wasn't much bigger. It only had three bedrooms, which was still too small for everyone to be comfortable. When I went into Lexi and Theo's bedroom, Lexi and Azura were playing with their Barbies and it seemed like they were trying to emulate Alesha and I's relationship. One of the Barbies was clearly pregnant and I had to step over the doll stuff to put Theo into his cot.

"Girls, Theo's going to be taking his nap. You need to play in the living room now," I said after I put Theo into his for. The girls gathered up the Barbie stuff into their arms and brought it into the living room, dumping it onto the floor.

I followed the girls and Alesha had already gotten onto my laptop and she was looking at the house. I sat back down beside her and crossed my legs.

Alesha looked around the house we were thinking about buying. We were the only ones at the open house right now.

"I like it, Amanda. Should we get it?" Alesha asked me. The house was nice and it was in a good neighbourhood, which was what we had both wanted. We wanted our children to grow up in a safe neighbourhood and a safe home that was not cramped.

"I think we should talk to the realtor about it. Maybe she can get the bank to lower the price on it for us," I replied. We were standing in the master bedroom, the room that we would have to separate into two bedrooms again. That had been the original layout of the house and we were going to restore it to that so it would fit our growing family.

Alesha called for the realtor to come back into the room and Alesha sat down into the bed. Her ankles had been swelling today because of the walking around she had done. Alesha said that we liked the house and we would like to get it if the price was lowered for us.

The realtor assured us she would do her best to lower the price. We walked out of the house smiling that we were getting our own home and when the owners moved out, we could move in whenever we wanted.

We planned to move in as soon as the owner moved out, which would be over the weekend. It was going to be a while for us.
