Chapter 13: Natsu VS Serena

"Come on Natsu! You can do it!" Yelled Lucy, struggling against the grip Erza and I had on her arms.

"Calm down Lucy! You can't jump into the arena to help!" I pleaded, tugging the Celestial Mage back.

Below us, another battle raged, probably more exciting than the one between Lucy, Erza and I.

Natsu was jumping here and there to avoid the magic vines the Sabertooth wizard, Serena, was throwing at him.

"This isn't good. Natsu can't get close to her!" Happy wailed.

Down in the arena, Natsu started forward, only to be blocked by a giant vine. He slammed a ball of fire into the plant in frustration. It was blasted to ashes, but more vines shot up in it's place. Brute strength wouldn't be enough to win this battle.

"This is getting no where! Natsu needs to find her weak point!" Lucy grumbled. I stared down at Serena. Below us, Natsu was still trying to attack with force. He won't get anywhere like that! Hang on...

"Her magic vines! They go back to her once they attack!" I yelled. My guild-mates gaped.

"What?!"

I turned my attention back to Natsu, who apparently, had just realised the what I had.
He stopped throwing fire everywhere and skidded backwards.

Serena, obviously confused at why he had stopped, halted as well. Natsu's taunting voice drifted up to us.

"Come and get me! I'm all fired up!"

A flicker of anger passed over Serena's face and she sent a thick vine hurtling at Natsu.

The cherry-haired male pushed off the ground and landed on her vine, grabbing it with both hands.

Serena gasped in outrage and horror as her vine automatically swept back towards her, the Fire Dragon Slayer along with it.

"Got you! Fire Dragon Brilliant Flame!"

Fire engulfed Serena as Natsu backed up. She tumbled across the ground, but that wasn't enough to knock her out. This just enraged her, but it seemed to enhance her magic, fuelled by her rage and humiliation.

"He found Serena's weak point! But now she knows about that too, so she'll be extra defensive!" Gray breathed out in disappointment.

He was right. When Natsu tried to do the 'ride the vine' trick again, Serena flicked her wrist, and another vine slammed him away.

Fire whirled everywhere. Everywhere but where Serena stood.
Natsu tried the vine riding trick for a third time, now trying to dodge the extra vines. He scored another hit on the Sabertooth wizard, but she was still standing.

Lucy gasped, "Look out!"

A vine smacked into Natsu, and he tripped over, swearing so loud, we could hear him all the way up on the balcony.

"That little frickleturd... He will pay for using such bad language...!" Erza fumed, removing her hands from Wendy's ears.

Another vine now hurtled at Natsu, wrapping around him and preventing him from moving his limbs.
Serena then made the mistake of approaching him, apparently thinking she had won.

She was only a few feet away from Natsu when he made his move.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!"

The blast of magic was so powerful, not only did the vines get burnt to piles of ash, but Serena was flung away and all the way to the other side of the arena. Natsu stumbled on his landing, but was otherwise unfazed.

He smashed his hands into the ground, which erupted in flames. The fire slammed once more into Serena, and time, she didn't get up.

"And the winner is Fairy Tail's Natsu!" Chapati roared. Natsu raised his fist in triumph as he staggered out of the arena. Lucy vanished from my side, probably going to make sure Natsu was okay.

"You guys should go too. You're in Natsu's team after all, and none of the rest of you are competing today," Makarov called over, "We'll let you know who wins the next two rounds."

"Thank you, Master," Erza nodded.
We all walked off to greet Natsu.

We found him sitting in the 'sick bay', getting patched up by some random nurse. He wore a huge, smug grin across his face and was busy recounting the fight to a relieved looking Lucy.

"Yo!" he called when he saw the rest of us. "How cool was that? I figured out her weak spot all by myself!"

"You surprised me," admitted Gray, "I didn't know you had a brain."

"What did you just say, Popsicle stripper?!" Natsu huffed, glaring at Gray menacingly. Gray returned the glare.

"Maybe all those flames you used in that battle MELTED your BRAIN!" Gray shot back.

"You are just asking to get smashed!" Natsu snapped.

"I'll take you on any time, fire freak!"

"And I'll beat you up any time, underwear prince!"

"ANYWAY..." Lucy said meaningfully. That win of yours brought us up to first place, Natsu!"

"Oh really? Sweet!" I cheered, breaking into my victory dance.

"The Master said he would tell us the final standings for Day 1 later," Erza reported, "Now... where's my cake?"

We all sweat-dropped.

"Say, Lucy and Gray-"

"GRAY-SAMA IS MINE!"

I ignored Juvia's outburst. "Both of you are fighting tomorrow, right?"

Lucy nodded reluctantly.

"Yeah," Gray nodded, prying the overly protective Juvia off his arm. Erza frowned over at Gray.

"Be careful of that Sherria girl. She can heal herself mid-fight, remember?" she cautioned. Gray waved an airy hand.

"If that's the case, we'll either tie or I'll keep attacking until she's too exhausted to use any more magic."

I glared at him.

"What the heck happened to 'men never hitting girls'?" I asked shrewdly. Lucy snickered and Gray's face went red.

"Oh, shut up." He muttered.

"Thank you for attending Day 1 of the Grand Magic Games! The points are as follows!" Chapati called, gesturing at the holographic screen, which immediately displayed a table.

Cheers echoed around the stadium, the loudest points being the Fairy Tail and Sabertooth members and fans.

"These Games have got off to an exciting start, and Fairy Tail and Sabertooth are currently tied in first place in an early lead! Please come back tomorrow for more exciting battles!" Chapati yelled, sweeping his hands around, "Well done competitors, thank you spectators, and good night!"
