4. Indonesian Alphabet

Before we get started, there are some alphabet in Indonesia that are changed from old spelling to current spelling. Here they are:

Phoneme : Old spelling : Current spelling

/u/ : oe : u

/tʃ/ : tj : c

/dʒ/ : dj : j

/j/ : j : y

/ɲ/ : nj : ny

/ʃ/ : sj : sy

/x/ : ch : kh

It's quite confusing, isn't it? don't worry, we didn't use the old spelling anymore nowdays. Okay, after you know about the old spelling, now we moved to the Alphabet. Here they are:

Abjad (alphabet) = how to spell (in english)

A = A : like Father
B = Be : like Beck
C = Ce : like Check
D = De : like Deck
E = E : like Egg
F = Ef : like Evelyn (but you don't have to push the "F" sound just like "V")
G = Ge : like Get
H = Ha : like Hahahaha
I = Ee : like Eenie minie
J = Je : like Jet
K = Ka : like Kania (the sound is same like the "A")
L = El : like El Nino
M = Em : like Embarrassing
N = En : like And
O = O : like Oh!
P = Pe : like Pet
Q = Kee : like Keep
R = Er : it's almost same like Bear (same like the "E" but with "R" sound)
S = Es : like Essay
T = Te : like Test
U = Oo : like Moo
V = Ve : like Venus
W = We : like Wendy (person's name)
X = Ex : like Ex
Y = Ye : like Yes
Z = Zet : like Zebra (but with "T" sound)
