9. Family Vocab

Halo semua, apa kabar? In this chapter i want to tell you some vocabulary in family. Let's get started!

1. Keluarga = Family

2. Ayah = Father
Another term for father in Indonesian (in english is like dad, daddy, or papa, or anything else) :
Bapak
Papa
Papi
Abi

3. Ibu = Mother
Another term for mother in Indonesian (in english is like mommy, mum or anything else) :
Bunda
Mama
Mami
Umi

4. *Kakak = is how we called older brother or sister in family, there's no specific gender for it. 'Kakak' can be use for big brother and big sister. We usually abstracting 'Kakak' to be 'Kak'

Example with person's name:
•Kak Melati (because melati is a girl name, so in this case 'kakak' used for big sister)
•Kak Aldi (because Aldi is a boy name, so in this case 'kakak' used for big brother)

5. *Adik = is how we called younger brother or sister in family, there's no specific gender for it. 'Adik' can be use for big brother and big sister. We usually abstracting 'Adik' to be 'Dik'. Another term for Adik is 'Adek' the abstracting term is 'Dek'.

Fiy: in Indonesia we sometimes didn't use Dik/Dek with person name. To a younger person we usually just call their name.

*for 'Kakak' and 'Adik' if we want to clarify the gender we can use 'Laki-laki' or 'Perempuan'

Laki-laki = Male
Perempuan = Female

•Kakak laki-laki = Big brother
•Kakak perempuan = Big sister

•Adik laki-laki = Younger brother
•Adik perempuan = Younger sister

6. Kakek = Grandfather

7. Nenek = Grandmother

8. Sepupu = Cousin
Usually if the cousin is older than us, we use 'Kakak' to him/her.

9. Keponakan = Nephew / Niece
There's no spesific gender for it. It can be use for both of Nephew or Niece.

10. Paman = Uncle
Another term : Om

11. Bibi = Aunt
Another term : Tante

12. Cucu = Grandchildren
