"Cassidy!" I call out through the rain. "Cassidy, come out!"
"She's not here anymore, Tobias." Timony grips my arm, shaking me. "She's probably gone home already." I meet his eyes and know he's probably right. She left me, I can't help but think, selfishly. My head droops as I give up the search.
Together with Timony, we head back inside. We run into Jerome. "Did you find her?" We shake our heads and stand in silence.
"Why did you allow Rheanna to say that crap?" Timony turns on me. I stare at him in shock.
"I-I don't know-," I start to say but Timony cuts me off. "You know what? I don't want to know. I'm so sick of your excuses for everything you do. You don't care about anyone but yourself."
I glare at him, anger rising. "What are you saying?" I demand.
Timony pushes me and speaks so quietly, it's scary. "She's better off. Without. You."
The weight of his words hit me like a speeding train and I physically stumble. I never dreamed anything would hurt this bad.
Jerome goes to step in but even though Timony is the smaller one of the two, he holds Jerome off. "Stop. He needs to understand this."
Timony turns to me. "Do you know what you are feeling right now? That emotional pain that hurts so bad it feels like you're dying?" I don't nod but he continues. "Now imagine if that was ten times worse. That is what Cassidy is feeling right now."
I could never imagine this pain ten times worse then it is now. That is why I steadfastly refuse to believe Cassidy is feeling this. "How would you know?" I sneer. "You have never felt this before because you can't even tell the girl you like how you feel about her." It was unfair of me to ever bring up his infatuation with Talia but that doesn't stop me, trying to make someone, anyone, understand what I am feeling.
He stands there watching me for a moment. Before I can even blink, his fist makes contact with my gut and a kneel over and hurl up my stomach contents.
Jerome grabs Timony to keep him from doing it again but thankfully Timony seems done with violence. "That makes us even." He shakes out his fist and starts walking away. My eyes follow after him and then he spins back and calls, "Tell me when you're in a better mood. Only then will I help you out of this hole you've dug." He waves and turns back around, leaving like nothing horrible has happened or has been said. Briefly, I admire him but despair still clouds my head.
"Come on, buddy," Jerome slides an arm under me. "Let's get you home." We walk, or in my case limp, to the limo. By then, I am walking more normal and don't need Jerome's help.
I open the door and it slams shut again. I turn my attention onto the jerk who just slammed it shut and stare straight into Cole Maghin's face. His rage is evident on it.
"What do you want?" I sneer. Hatred for him just flows out of me. I find myself jealous of him in more ways than one. All of them center around Cassidy.
Cole calms himself externally but I can tell it's a struggle. What he does say has me shocked beyond belief. "When I first heard Cassidy sing, she had no idea anyone was around. She sang with all of her heart and her voice was captivating. It was beautiful. For the first time ever, I had cried when I heard someone sing.
"Naturally, I wanted to hear her sing more and more. I yearned for it. And before I knew it, I fell in love. Like really in love. For years, I followed her around to hear her sing again but after her mom's and dad's fallout, it became far and few between.
"One day, when it had been far too long since I had last heard her sing, I got the brilliant idea to let her know of a local karaoke place just to see how she reacted. She jumped for it and she went there. At the same time, the band Crushed, my band, was looking to add a female lead vocalist. I tried talking Tadashe into taking her in but he said, "I don't have time to train a newbie," and so I had to seek an alternative. To prove her worth. So I set Tadashe's sights on Rheanna."
My eyes bug out of my head but he's not finished. "Rheanna had secretly fallen in love with Tadashe and when I found that out, I told Tadashe so. He used her love for him so that Crushed would have a female lead. It didn't hurt that it would take your female lead right out from underneath you on the eve on the competition. Two birds with one stone and all that. The only thing holding Rheanna back from leaving you guys was the fact that you wouldn't have a female lead. She was hesitant."
"So you hatched a plan where Cassidy would become our female lead, letting Rheanna leave us completely and showing proof that Cassidy was truly gifted to Tadashe," I finished for him.
Grimly, Cole nods his head. "I just never imagined someone like you would hurt someone like her so badly. My mistake." Without another word, Cole slinks off and I'm left reeling with this new revelation. I slide into the limo without another word, feeling numb to everything and wondering, not for the first time, how things will ever work out.
So in the end the mysterious person was Cole! How many of you saw this coming? What do you think Tobias will do next? Hopefully, he and his band mates can rally together and think of something! Otherwise, they will be without a female lead yet again and Cassidy will not sing anymore. That's just too sad!
