Chapter 41

Zayn stops the car after another two hours since the rabbit incident and my head turns to look out the window. Grass, trees, a small lake, but no tents.

"You need to piss again?" I ask sarcasticaly as he unbuckes his seatbelt. I see him frown and shake his head in the rearview mirror.

"No, this is where we're camping." he replies, and my jaw drops.

I turn to Alexa in hopes that she will come to my rescue and tell Zayn we can't camp here, but her eyes are wide with excitement and her grin is very big.

"But... campers camp in camping spaces." I try to argue but I know no one will listen. "No toilets? No showers? Are you guys neanderthals?" I scream.

"Oh, come on Dash, it's only for a week." Alexa smiles sweetly. Only?! Only for a week?! I'm probably going to get malaria and die by the time this week ends. And then, I turn to Marcel for comfort.

"I'm not going to make it." I complain.

"We'll just take the car." Marcel says, for both me and the neanderthal couple to hear.

One by one, Zayn, Alexa and Marcel get out and start unloading the trunk.

I step out of the car while Alexa and Zayn settle up the tents and whatever else they are settling up. I take a very deep breath of air, taking in the view and the scent of trees; okay maybe this won't be as bad as I imagined it to be, but I don't know how I will manage to go a week without showering. I mean, deodorant is good, but it doesn't kill bacteria, it only takes away the smell. Okay, I'll stop now.

I watch Marcel set up our tent, even though we aren't going to use it very much I suppose, and then look at the mess Alexa and Zayn are making.

"Babe, look!" Marcel smiles proudly and shows me the perfectly installed tent. I can't help but smile back at his beaming little face and his beautiful green eyes (that are even greener than the grass or the trees).

"Looks good."

I get the sleeping bags and pillows out to make a comfy place out of that ugly tent. Maybe I'm not going to sleep in it, but I wouldn't mind just sitting there with Marcel. A cool breeze starts blowing as the sun gets covered by the clouds for a moment or two.

"Let me help you with those." Marcel rushes over, taking the pillows and one of the blankets from my arms. That leaves me with one blanket. We crawl into the tent and spread the blankets on the floor and throw the pillows at the back. I lay down and close my eyes. I feel Marcel laying down beside me and trailing his fingers down my bare shoulder.

"Are you okay?" he asks in a low voice. Alexa's giggles ad Zayn's voice seem distant now, isolated by the thin material of the tent. The chilly temperature is felt under the shadow of the tree where Marcel set up our tent.

"Yes. I just have this uneasy feeling that something will go wrong."

"That's okay. I have it too." his hand stops on my waist and he pulls himself closer. I open my eyes right when he closes his and leans in to kiss me.

"I don't usually feel like this, though." I admit when he pulls away.

"It's going to be fine." he reassures me.

"Okay." I wrap my arms around him and stay like that, until Zayn pulls our flap and sticks his head through it.

"Am I interrupting something?" he grins as if he enjoys interrupting things a lot.

"Yes, you are actually." I reply trying to kick him jokingly in the face. He ducks though and I don't try again.

"Sorry. Do you guys wanna come out for beers?" he questions and I shake my head while Marcel shrugs and nods. He looks at me and then changes his mind.

"Nah, thanks though."

"You sure?" Zayn smirks.

"No he's not. Come on." I say, getting up. I'm not letting myself ruin his fun, no matter how much I enjoyed just lying here with Marcel.

Alexa's standing outside on a blanket, her eyeglasses popped on and the cold beers beside her. She's shadowing her eyes and looking at the lake. We sit beside her and Zayn opens our beers.

"I was thinking about going to the Death Valley. That sounds exciting." Alexa grins.

"How far is that?" I sigh.

"About two hours away." she shrugs.

"Do you wanna go?" I ask Marcel.

"Not really."

"Okay, Marcel and I aren't going."

We sit in silence drinking our beers, enjoying the nature for a few minutes, until Alexa and Zayn start chatting like they always do. I just listen to their conversation, laugh along, and sometimes glance at Marcel.

It isn't long before the sun lowers on the sky, like a call for the mosquitoes to wake up. We try to use mosquito repellents and ultrasound devices but none of those work on long-term so Alexa and Zayn hide in their tent as Marcel and I take refuge in the car.

There's a perk to sleeping in Zayn's car as it can basically convert into a bed. You push the backseat down, and the trunk becomes the size of a small twin bed. Not only that, but we have the radio, no risk of getting soaked by the rain or blown up by the wind, and a tad more warmth than Alexa and Zayn do.

"Can you go get the pillows and blankets?" I ask Marcel. He's wearing long trousers and a sweater which probably makes him less attractive to the monstruous mosquitoes. Literally, they're humongous.

"No it's okay. I brought some myself. I wasn't sure if we'd share a tent or not." He smiles, pointing to the pile of bedding behind me I somehow haven't noticed.

After our improvised (but surprisingly comfortable!) bed is ready, Marcel takes it upon himself to kill the vampire-insects that have somehow managed to get in the car. That done, he lays down beside me, and slips his fingers between mine like it's the most natural thing to do. I look at our hands and then at him. Yep, I love him.

"Look at the stars. There's so many of them." his lips move slowly, barely whispering the words. I turn my head to look at the sky. Between the soft sounds of him breathing and the extraordinary sky, my world stops spinning and time freezes.

"I've never seen so many stars." I admit, keeping my voice to a whisper as well.

"Call me cheesy but, I've always thought you were more beautiful than all the stars in this sky."

I turn my head to look at him, heart beating fast, and he's facing me, too, a lazy smile on his face. I love him. Why do I love him? Why do I love him this much?

"You are cheesy."

"Sorry for saying the truth."

I turn my body completely to him, place my hand on his cheek and kiss his lips. I try to make him understand just how much I love him, just how much of my soul he earned, just how much I care about him and want him to be happy and have all the beautiful things in the world. I don't let go of his hand as my lungs run out of breath and my lips melt into his. I pull away and roll over on my back.

Marcel's hands loosens its hold on mine as he falls asleep, lips slightly apart as always, his cheast heaving up and down.

"I love you."

He smiles, which means he actually wasn't asleep and I made the biggest mistake, and pulls me to his chest.

"Shut up." he mumbles, still smiling.

*Was this short? If it was, I'm sorry. I just wanted it to end here because it's such an emotional moment :'). So anyway, get ready for a crazy camping week. I already feel sorry for Delilah lol. Thank you for still reading, I appreciate your patience more than you know. Don't forget to comment/vote/share! x*
