The next morning, the newly wed couple woke up and got ready for breakfast. They walked down the stairs only to realise that the house was quiet. Way too quiet. They went to the table expecting a maid to serve them but there was no one.
"I'll check the kitchen." Meera said and stood up. But again, the kitchen was empty. She walked back to her husband who was busy with his phone.
"Do you want me to prepare something for you?" She asked while fiddling with her fingers. Jaebum looked at her. "There's no one?" She shook her head. He thought for a minute before replying. "Eggs will be fine." Meera nodded and went back to the kitchen to look for the ingredients.
Apart from studying, she loved cooking. It was like healing for her. She hummed a happy song while moving around the kitchen to cook. Within ten minutes she was ready with the breakfast. It was a half fry egg in a simple sandwich with lettuce and mayonnaise along with a glass of juice. She prepared some French toast too.
"Sorry for the wait." She said while placing the dishes on the table. "It's alright. It hasn't been that long." He waited for Meera to sit while she waited for him to taste the food. Although it was a simple dish, she was still anxious about his reaction.
"Aren't you going to sit?" He asked while adjusting his napkin.
"I have to cook for everyone." She said. Her eyes were glued on the floor. Jaebum just sighed. He never understood why she always looked down. He wanted to know but then he wasn't close enough to ask something which might have a deeper meaning behind it.
"Maids will come later. Here, take half of it." He neatly cut the sandwich in half and kept one of the piece in a new plate. He then stood up and pulled a chair for her. Meera's heart warmed up at that small action. She walked to his side and sat.
"Thank you." She said. And he smiled.
After a while when their breakfast was almost finished, they saw Dasom tying buttoning up the sleeves of her white shirt while yawning. But her sleep quickly vanished from her eyes. The couple was looking at her which made her embarrassed. She sped walk to them and bowed. First greeting them and then apologising.
"I'm so sorry. It was late at night then-"
"It's alright. Don't worry." Jaebum said and continued to finish his breakfast. "Let me help you unnie." Meera was done eating her food so she offered to help Dasom. She went to the kitchen with her and helped her prepare breakfast for everyone. One by one they all came to the dining hall. They looked so sleep deprived.
"You're up early. I wonder why? I wonder how?" Nikki teasingly said pointing at Jaebum. The man causally shrugged. "We slept early. That's why." He knew what she meant and decided to annoy her.
"Don't spoil my mood." She held her throbbing head and let her head fall on the table with a loud thud. Meera sat with others as other maids were up.
"Meera?" Her aunt called. The said girl turned to her.
"We'll be leaving tonight."
"WAit! What?!" More than Meera, it was Nikki who was shocked. She gasped loudly and covered her mouth with her hands. "Why didn't you tell me before?!"
"Stop overreacting." Her father said and she slumped back in her seat.
"Meanie."

.Later than evening, the Im family went to drop Suris at the airport. Meera hugged her aunt who had tears in her eyes.
"Take care okay? And be a good wife." She had a motherly smile on her face while talking to the young girl.
"You too take care of yourself." Meera again hugged her not wanting to let her go. On the other side Mr Suri pat Jaebum's back for his attention as he was busy with his phone. He quickly ended the call and kept the phone inside.
"I'm sorry. The work is..."
"I know young man. There are times when we prioritise our work over family. I understand that." Jaebum relaxed a bit.
"Please take care of Meera. She lost her mother at a young age. And then she never wanted to burden her father so she never expressed her true feelings. She never enjoyed life like people of her age do. She never complained. She never said 'no' so she doesn't know how to refuse people and be strong. She cries alone. It really hurts to see her like this. Just be there for her, that's all I'm asking for."
Jaebum remembered Mrs Im's words about her crying alone in her room. A knot was formed in his throat when he remembered the times he hurt her feelings and she never complained. Not even once. He understood the older man's words and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry. She is my responsibility. I will take care of her."
Mr Suri nodded and went back to his wife.Jaebum turned and saw Nikki teasing Meera. His wife had a blush on her face as she playfully pushed her cousin. He joined them.
"Have a safe flight."
"And you treasure my sister." Nikki replied with an authoritative tone. "She is inexperienced in a lot of areas. Such as being romantic and intimate stuff. Just teach her a few bits here and there-"
"Nikki!" Meera got embarrassed and looked down before running to her uncle.
"On a serious note.." Nikki continued when Meera was not with them.
"Just be there for her and don't leave her alone. She doesn't need much to be happy. Simple talks and a little smiles. It's an arranged marriage so it might be difficult for you guys so don't force yourself. Just ask her about her day or studies. She appreciates these simple things in life the most."
It was a first for him to see this side of Nikki. She sounded all serious and loving at the same time when it came to her cousin. He nodded and promised to keep her happy.
"You better keep your promise or I'll burn you alive." She then laughed it off but Jaebum knew that she was serious.

.
.After the Suris left, Mrs Im sat in one car while Jaebum and Meera sat in another car. Mrs Im wanted to give them some time alone so she took the driver with her whereas Jaebum was driving his own car.
But instead of going home, he took the road to Han River. Meera didn't know the way so she just sat quiet in her seat. When they reached the place, he got out first and opened the door for Meera. She followed him to the bench and sat beside him keeping a distance in between. She didn't say anything, patiently waiting for Jaebum to initiate a conversation.
"Meera?"
"Yes?" She replied in the gentlest way possible. Jaebum took a deep sigh before continuing.
"If I ever hurt you, if I ever hurt your feelings, no matter how insignificant it might be, just let me know. Or else... I wouldn't know." She turned to look at him. He was looking ahead which made her notice his sharp side profile.
"I want to be a good husband. But I can't do this alone. I need you to help me."
Meera nodded at his words. He then turned to her to find her looking at him. She immediately looked away with a faint blush on her cheeks, but luckily for her, her hair covered her face.
"I want to be a good wife too." She said softly still her head bowed down.
"You are good enough to be honest." Jaebum said which made her smile. "If you still think that you're not good enough, then let's help each other."
"Okay."
