Mrs. Im and Jabeum sat in silence. The old woman was waiting for him to process all the information which she had given a minute before.

"Your father went to the hospital with him. Her condition was really bad. Her back was burnt badly. They had to save the baby at least. The doctors operated on her and saved their child."

She sighed, "Meera was born as a premature baby. She had health complications when she was born. Your father used his approach and contacted the best doctors in Japan to treat her."

Mrs. Im decided to continue.

"Even after what happened, Mr Suri didn't say a word to us. He accepted it all as his fate. So your father and I decided to help him as much as we could. His wife risked everything to save you. We owed him our lives Jaebum. But he refused it. He didn't want anything except for his daughter. But we still gave him our contact details."

Mrs Im smiled a little remembering the day when Meera came to live with them. She knew about her arrival from her aunt because she contacted her a long time back. She was more than happy to have Meera with her.

After reading the letter which Mr Suri had addressed to her husband, asking them to take care of their daughter brought that familiar ache in her heart. She raised her hand and caressed Jaebum's hair to get his attention.

"She is a good girl and I thought that you guys would be happy together. I guess I was wrong. I just wanted to help her and give her the best of everything. She lost her mother because of us. I thought that this way I could make sure that she is happy. I didn't want her to marry someone else. I trusted you with her. You didn't have anybody and then you agreed to it. I really don't k-know anymore. I'm really sorry Beom-ah."

With that Mrs. Im ended up crying. Her loud sobs echoed in the room. Jabeum took no time in embracing her. He hugged her tight trying to tell her that it wasn't her fault. She just wanted the best for both of them but her son ended up ruining everything. He could've had a happy family if only he checked on his actions. If only he realised it sooner that what he was doing was wrong.

"Eomma. Please don't apologise. It's not your fault."

They both stayed like that for some time. Mrs. Im pulled back and looked away to wipe her tears properly. She then gave her son a small smile.

"I think you should talk to Meera. She is going through a hard time as well."

Jabeum nodded. He has to talk to Meera. He has to fix the mess that he created.

Meera continued to look at the balcony door. She was seated on the bed with her head rested on her folded knees and looking to her right. She wrapped her arms around her legs curling herself in a ball.

The sunlight seeped through the light curtains and shone on her features. Her eyes were red and puffy. She bit her lips before sighing defeatedly.

She was still in her own little world when there was a knock on the door followed by a small creak sound indicating that the person had entered the room. She assumed that person to be one of the maids.

"I ate already."

She said in a small voice, not sparing a glance in that direction. She wanted to be alone.

"'Meera?"

The girl froze on her spot on hearing that familiar voice. She bit her lip hardly while closing her eyes shut to stop herself from crying. She wasn't ready to face him.
