Chapter 8 - Promises

Azrael’s POV

“Well that party was a nice waste of my time.” I grumble under my breath, “Now mother wants my audience at this meeting. Augh! Useless mutt couldn’t even do his damn job.”

“You shouldn’t have done that Azrael. What would have you done if a human would have walked across your little set up.” Sighing I turn around, looking John right in the eye.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I say innocently, continuing my way downstairs, “Why up so early John, couldn’t sleep without you-know-who? Oh wait you never do.” I say, trying to push his buttons. The pack house was empty since everyone was either over at someone’s house passed out from last night or at work.

I hear him sigh behind me, still following me as I made my way into the kitchen, “I’m not everyone else cousin. I know you far better than I had hoped. Why did you do it? She’s no one important so why even go there?” I pretend I didn’t hear him as he pretending I didn’t mention his little tramp. I opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of orange juice. I leaned back into the countertop and took a sip of my drink watching as he got more and more impatient with me ignoring him.

“Oh relax; I was just having some fun. I knew what I was doing and I was keeping a close eye on it don’t worry.” I say to him, watching his face contort some more.

“You know better than to mess with the humans Azrael, especially using an outsider to do it for you. You were being reckless and irresponsible.  What would you have done if she would have died?” he scolded.

I huffed at that, “If she would have died that wouldn’t have made a difference. And she was of no importance to me, just another pawn. “ that was a lie, there was a reason I led that wolf specifically to her.

“And this has nothing to do with Abaddon?” he asked plainly, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. I simply smiled at him keeping my face hidden from anything but that. Was it about her? Duh! That witch’s stench was all over what’s MINE! She just needed to learn her place. Was I going to let anyone know that? No.

“No it wasn’t, Abaddon being there and killing the mutt was just a…bonus.” I tell him, smiling at the anger I felt from her yesterday, and how she had all these low lives shaking in their boots with a single howl. She saw me but her wolf was so disoriented I doubt she could actually make me out except for knowing I was a wolf.

“If you say so Azrael, if you say so.” he says while he followed me to the front door. He could be a real pain sometimes but he was the only one I could tolerate from this lazy pack, and he had his uses.

“I do say so. Now, if you’re done interrogating me John then I have to be on my way.” I say making my way outside to my car. The woman wanted me to attend this meeting with the council for god knows what, “Do me a favor and don’t mention anything to anyone got it?”

He just merely rolls his eyes, as I made my way into the driver’s seat, “Do I ever?”

That’s true, he was loyal but I knew there was one that could make him stray, “Let’s keep it that way. Oh and can you take care of that thing I told you before, thanks.” I said as I pulled out of the drive way quickly.

There better be a good reason the old hag woke me up so early.

Abaddon’s POV

It has been two weeks since we went out to look for John. We had gone in search of him everywhere, and when I say everywhere I mean all the places we could think of. We went to the pack house, the coffee house he likes to go to, and even went to the next cities over in search of him, but nothing. He didn’t even show up to school. Apparently he had to take care of something ‘important’ and was going to be gone for a while according to the pack gossipers. I was a little surprised how Cindy would know these things but I shrugged it off. If she wanted to mention it she would have.  It was Monday and I was walking down the hall to my locker. I had started making it a habit to get there extra early just so I wouldn’t have to deal with all the rushing teenagers. Yeah I hated waking up earlier but I just slept here and got to class a lot faster so all good.
