I opened the door to Ana's room, it was full, full of Doctor's, Nurses, her mom and dad, Matt and his mom, and for a second I panicked.
"What's wrong?" I asked Matt, grabbing his arm.
"She squeezed my hand, the first time I wasn't sure, but she did it again, she definitely squeezed my hand." He was looking at me and I could see the relief on his face.
"Really?" I asked, he nodded.
All the doctors were hovering over Ana, doing who knows what, and talking amongst themselves.
"Do you mind stepping out?" A nurse asked us.
I turned to leave but Matt stood his ground. "No, what if she wakes up and I'm not there?"
"The chances." A nurse started, but he cut her off. "Look, she squeezed my hand, so don't look at me like I'm an idiot."
"I can assure you Sir, we are not treating you like an idiot, but the Doctor's want to do an exam and, well, sometimes it can be distressing to family." A nurse told him.
"Come on Matt." I took his hand and lead him out of the room.
We walked over and sat down, everyone else following.
"I swear she did Meg." And I believed him, I could see it in his face.
We sat there for what seemed like forever, but was really only half an hour, when a Doctor came to talk to us.
"So we subjected Ana to various types of stimuli, and well, unfortunately we didn't get great results, actually they really didn't differ to what they were two days ago." He was looking at Matt.
"So, what are you saying?" Ana's dad asked.
"I'm saying that it's highly unlikely that Ana is coming out of her coma."
"She squeezed my hand, twice." I could tell Matt was getting pissed.
"You more than likely felt muscle spams."
Matt groaned and stood up. "It wasn't a fucking muscle spasm." And he walked back into Ana's room.
"Sorry the news wasn't what you were hoping for." The doctor offered.
I got up and followed Matt into the room. He'd taken up his position next to her bed, holding her hand.
"She did." He didn't look up from Ana.
"I believe you Matt." I told him. "It just means that one of us will have to be here all the time."
"Well I'm not leaving, at all." And he wouldn't either.
"I know, but between you me and Zack we can at least work out a way that we can eat and rest." I pointed out.
He nodded. "Thanks Meg.
I pulled up a chair and sat next to him, I looked at Ana, I didn't care what those doctor's said, she looked different.
"You see it too?" Matt asked me.
I nodded, yeah, I definitely saw it.
