Dan is so caught up in his excitement he doesn't even notice his life crumbling around him. Phil seems to steal all the bad things out of Dan's life. He almost, replaces them. It's a blessing and a curse. When Dan is snapped out of his everlasting happy state, the weight of his problems may become too much and he will be crushed under the weight.
Dan is jumpy all day. He eagerly... no. Not eagerly. Euphorically awaits the arrival of his meeting with Phil. His friends become aware of Dan's sudden change in mood. They are unsure what to think. Dan has never been so genuinely and openly happy.
"Dan, what the fuck?" Tyler says simply hoping not to make it seem like he's angry but also expresses his general concern. Dan is too lost in his bliss to even answer straight. He mumbled something like, "Huh? Oh yeah sure"
This just made his friends more concerned.
Dan was heading to lunch still in his endless ecstasy, when he sees a wall of humans form in front of him.
"We need to talk." says Anthony. "Now." Tyler stands his ground firmly beside him. Dan realizes there is no way around it so he begrudgingly obliged. The pair leads him to a hidden corner in the hallway. Out of the reach of the prying eyes of students and teachers.
"What the fuck is up with you Dan?" Tyler says finally, breaking the awkward silence. "You've been acting weird. And it's not bad weird but it is weird."
Dan hesitated slightly. A part of him wanted to share his joy with the world in the hopes that the world will reciprocate his joy. But a much larger part of him wanted this one special thing to himself.
"Nothing happened. I'm just in a really good mood I guess." Dan says with a half hearted smile. He felt bad about lying to his friends but he just wasn't ready to discuss Phil with other people yet. Except Phil.
During Dan's last class, history, he wasn't listening at all. He was staring at the clock counting down the seconds until he sees Phil. (Little did he know Phil was doing the same thing not too far away). He didn't even bother to listen to his teacher's lecture on the significance of the Ancient Greek Culture. Dan was so anxious he was tapping his pencil on the desk loudly. His excitement and nerves were taking over.
"Can you shut the fuck up with that damn pencil? It's annoying as hell." Dan looks away from the clock to see none other than Pj Liguori. His emerald green eyes flashing with hints of frustration and annoyance. Dan always thought Pj's eyes were somewhat cat like, because similar to a cat Pj was just as selfish as he was mean.
"Oh sorry. I'll be more careful." Dan said. But then his leg promptly began bouncing up and down, hitting the desk with every bounce. He did this half to annoy Pj but also half because he needs to relieve his anxiety.
"Keep doing that Howell, and we'll see just how many times I have to punch you before you get the message." Pj threatens. Dan doesn't flinch because he realizes just how empty the threat is. Pj wouldn't hurt him with a teacher around or at all really. Pj is a really nice person who just so happens to hate Dan.
Before Dan had the chance to retaliate, the bell rang, indicating the end of the day. Faster than a speeding bullet, Dan was out the door, across the field, beyond the gate and unlocking his car. Jesus Christ! That's the most exercise I've done in my life! Dan thought. I hope Phil appreciates me getting in shape for him. Dan drives home as quick as he can to ensure he gets there before Phil does. His mum was home when he got there. She doesn't have work on Wednesday.
"Hi mum! I'm home." Dan says entering the lounge to find his mum on the couch with her email open in an intense conversation. He can't see who she's emailing exactly but he assumes it's for work.
"Hi sweetie! How was your day?" Dan's mum replies not taking her eyes off the screen. Dan chooses not to notice.
"Good. I'm having a friend over later."
"Fun. Anthony or Tyler?" Dan's mum inquires knowing that these are the only two of Dan's friends to come over.
"Uh, actually, it's my new friend Phil."
"Oh honey, I'm so glad you're making new friends. I wish I could meet this Phil person but  I have work."
"Mum, it's Wednesday, you don't have work."
"I know I don't usually leave on Wednesday but they need me to fill in for someone." Dan's mum is a doctor so it makes sense that she needs to fill in.
His mum kisses him goodbye and Dan waits 15 long, nervous, minutes until he finally hears the doorbell chime. He sprints to the door and then takes 30 seconds to calm down so he doesn't look too eager. He inevitably swings the door open to be greeted by a very content Phil Lester.
"Hi" Dan says after 2 minutes of awkward silence.
"Hi" Phil responds.
