Chapter 2
"The surgery was successful so all you need is rest," I softly say to my patient that just woke up from surgery. He smiles faintly and nods. "Thanks Doctor Swan." I smile and nod. "You're welcome." I walk out of the recovery room and made my way to the desk. "A young man that was in a motorcycle accident was just brought it and needs to be checked." I nod.
"Can you get Belle to go check him and I will go right now." She nods. I go wash my hands and prepare myself to go see that young man. As I'm walking I see Belle talking on the phone. "Hey weren't you going to go see the patient?" She hangs up and nods. "Yes it's just the paramedic gave me the patient's phone then someone by the name of Regina called and I let her know that the person she was calling was in a motorcycle accident."
"Ok well let's go check him out." She smiles and nods. We get there and my intern, Tink is there. "This is the motorcycle patient," she says and I start to look at him. That's when something on his arm catches my attention, it's a chart. "Hey Belle, Tink there's a chart here." They both glanced at the patient's arm and give an impressed look.
I grabbed his arm and started to read it. "Who wrote this?" I asked the patient. He looks at it and sighs. "The ones who made me like this, and for the love of God, Please take this off me." I look at him and I couldn't stop laughing because instead of having a neck brace he had two plush bears there. "Ok Tink, put him into one of our neck braces." She nods and walks away.
The young man sighs in relief. "What's your name?" "William." I smile. "Well William, whoever did the first aid did an extremely good job, it's very cute." He scoffs and rolls his eyes. I glance at Belle and she quietly laughs. "Ok well you have a suspected rib fracture..." I then go and poke his ribs and he yelps.
"And it's confirmed, you have a rib fracture." He groans then I check his foot. "Your foot...." I touch it and he groans. "Ah it is an ankle sprain..." I stood there thinking and Belle shook her head. I glanced at William. "Are you a thief?" His eyes shot open. "No what?" I laugh as I grab his arm. "Well that's what it says on your arm." He shakes his head.
"No it doesn't." I nod. "It says thief, treat as painfully as possible." He scoffs and pulls his arm away. "What are you saying? I am the victim here." That's when Tink comes with the neck brace then Belle starts to put it on him. "Make sure everything is good with your insurance company because we will have to take an X-ray to examine your ribs and ankles."
That's when another nurse walks up to us. "Doctor Swan, the chief is calling you." I nod. "Oh that's right, let me know when you get an X-ray," I say to both Belle and Tink. They nod and prep the patient for the X-ray. I make my way up to the chiefs office but I find him waiting for me out in the hall.
"So I finished organizing your thesis research paper, chief." He smiles and nods. "You worked hard, was it any help to your studies?" I nod. "It was." He looks at the paper and smiles. "It looks good, even the charts look good." I smile and nod. I was so happy he had approved it because my goal is to ultimately be a profesor.
"So it seems you only have the interview portion left in your path to become a professor, right?" I nod. "Yes, I've been getting..." That's when I see William trying to get into a taxi. That dummy head is trying to escape. I'm starting to get nervous and the chief notices that I'm looking behind him. He turns around and stares out the window. "Oh sorry chief, a patient is running away..." He nods.
"Is He a patient who received treatment and is running away without paying?" I shake my head. "He didn't receive treatment, and he's running away. So if you're finished talking..." He nods. "Okay, go catch him quickly; he should be treated. Medicine is a benevolent art after all." I nod and keep my eyes on William. "Well then...I'll get going." I make my way down and he almost gets into a taxi.
"Where do you think you're going?" He scoffs. "Leave me alone doctor lady..." I twist his arm and put it behind his back. "You need to be treated." He starts to scream. "Ok, ok I'll go." I let go and smile. "Good." That's when the security officer brings a wheel chair. "Now sit and let me take you back to the ER." He scoffs as I sit him down.
I wheel him back in and he starts to complain. "I'm too loud to be inside a hospital. I'll disrupt everyone." I look at Belle and Tink and they shook their heads. "So who is responsible for letting him run away?" Tink looked away as Belle gave her a disapproving look. "You didn't see that?" Belle asks her and she looks down. "I'm sorry."
I sigh. "He almost got away in a taxi cab. Look at how swollen his ankle is now." William scoffs. "This is so frustrating, If i get caught by my friends I won't be lying in the ER but in the mortuary." We all stood there just listening to the nonsense he was saying. He then scoffs again. "With what right is this hospital holding me in here? If I leave or not, isn't it the customer's preference?" I sigh.
"It's not by right, but by obligation, customer." Belle nods. "If you're going, sign a waiver and pay for the treatment already received." He gasps. "Excuse me? Why would I pay? I haven't had anything done since I've gotten here." Belle scoffs. "You met with a Doctor, you need to pay the consultation fee." I shake my head as I see Belle arguing with William.
"And if I can't pay it?" William says getting up from the wheel chair. "We will call the police," Belle says and I nod. William scoffs. "Whatever, my friend is supposed to come anyway, so until he comes here I guess I can lie down," he says walking towards the exit.
I stop him and turned him around. "The bed is the other way, "customer." He takes a step back and scoffs. "I'm going to the bathroom, ok?" I scoff. "You expect us to believe that?" He rolls his eyes and scoffs. "I won't skip out on the hospital fee, okay? I'll leave my cell phone with you, ok?" He then grabs my hand and puts his phone in my hand.
Belle and Tink have a hold of him and he pulls away. "Damn it I'm not going to burn down the hospital," he says as he limps his way to the bathroom. "Oh such bad luck I have," he says as he closes the door. We all softly laugh and I shake my head. "That little punk." The girls nod. That's when the phone rings.
I look at the caller ID. "Big Boss aka Killian," I read. I scoff as I continued to stare at the screen. "Big boss? Seriously? All these kids need to do military service to get their lives in order." I end the call and put this phone in the pocket of my white doctors coat. I smile and take a deep breath.
"Alright ladies, let's get back to work." They nod. "Yes captain oh I mean Doctor Swan," Tink says and I laugh.
