Chapter 18

Many many days later

"So when you feel sick again you come see me understood?" I ask the little boy I was treating. He nods and smiles. "Alright, you can go back home." He smiles and runs off. Elsa walks up to me and smiles.

"The kids here love you." I smile as I take off my gloves. "I guess." She nods. "So are you ready for miss Regina Mills to come?" I scoff. "I don't care if she's here but if she tries to boss me around she's gonna get it." Elsa chuckles. That's when Killian walks into the Med Bay carrying a big box.

"This just arrived for you guys from the main hospital, where do you want me to set it down?" I point at my table and he places it there. "Thanks." He nods and walks away. I really hate this whole treating each other like colleagues thing; it's killing me. I mean it's not awkward but I just don't like it.

Elsa chuckles as she goes to open the box. "I can't believe y'all went from basically being lovers to colleagues." I nod. "It's pretty sad seeing you guys interact." I sigh. "Yeah well that's how things are and there's nothing I can do to change it." Elsa chuckles.

"You know you can but you just don't want to." I wave my hand as I go put my tools away. Elsa starts to put the supplies we received away and I walk up to the door. I stared around and sighed. I'm happy at least the place where we are at isn't a war zone, if not I would be freaking out.

And after the run down Killian gave us the other day I feel safe and secure. I continued to see around and I suddenly hear commotion. I walk outside and I see soldiers running around with their guns. That's when William walks up to me. "What's going on?" "Get the whole team out here." I nod. I take out my walkie and called the whole team.

That's when I see Killian and Robin, walk out of their arms container with their ear pieces on. "Of course commander, we will get everyone situated," I hear Killian say. That's when the whole team walks over towards the front of the med Bay. "What's going on?" Ruby asks scared as can be. I shrug.

That's when Killian walks closer to me. "What's going on Killian?" He sighs and grabs my arm pulling me away from the group. "The President of the Western League of nations was returning from his official visit to North Maldonia, to establish an agreement on a western League of Nations peace treaty." I nod. "He is of high royalty and reaching peaceful agreements between political and border control. He is known to be a key player in these matters." I nod.

"He is coming here because he became ill." I nod. "I just need you to know the severity of the situation." I nod again as we make our way back to the group. Killian then hands me a small packet. "This is the president's medical record." I nod as I look it over. Jefferson gasps. "Why is everything blacked out, how can we make a proper diagnosis if we don't have the full medical history?" I scoff. "Knowing the president's medical history can be their weakness, that is why a president's health status is a national secret."

Killian nods. We turn around and hear the sirens. They arrive and the soldiers place the president on a gurney and take him inside the med Bay. I take a lead and tell each person in my team to do an initial exam and go from there. "Blood pressure is high, pulse is fast and irregular, and he is drowsy," Elsa says and I nod.

"This appears to be hyperglycemia," Ruby adds and I nod. Jefferson then huffs. "It said in his chart that he has diabetes, Emma do you think it's a problem with his insulin?" I nod. "Let's take care of that first." I give the order to Tink to give him the proper medications.

Tink nods, but then the president's head of security stops her. "This is the prescription from his resident doctor." He then hands me a vial of medicine. I read it and gasp. "Nitroglycerin?" Everyone else gasps. "By putting this in him, its doing the opposite effect of what insulin does." I nod hearing Jefferson say this.

"He's a person of power and medical history shouldn't be trusted. He's not having hypertension due to hypoglycemia. He has hypoglycemia due to problems with his heart, give it to him," I say to Tink and she nods. She then puts it into his IV. As soon as she puts it in, the heart monitor goes off.

Everyone gasps. "His blood pressure is dropping rapidly, open the lines and give him more IV fluids." I scream the order as I touch his abdomen. That's when Killian walks up to me. "Emma what is the situation?" I stayed quiet as I was going over his symptoms in my head.

I press down on the president's abdomen and he groans. "He is bleeding into his abdominal cavity, they are hiding something else, I won't know unless I open him up Killian." Killian nods. "Elsa get the operating room ready, we must open him up." We start to wheel him to the OR and the president's men stop me.

"I cannot let you operate on him, his doctor will be here in an hour, you just make sure he lives that long." I scoff. "No he won't even last 20 minutes." The man scoffs. "I can't let anyone operate on him." I scoff again. "Don't you understand it's my duty to save people and if I don't operate him in 20 minutes he will die."

That's when I start to push the gurney and he puts a gun to my head. Killian in an instant puts his gun to his head. "Put the gun down, no one threatens my people in my presence." I look at Killian and he nods at me. The man backs away and then Killian doesn't take the gun off of him then stands in front of me.

I stood my ground, but I can't say that I was scared out of my mind. That's when I hear someone speaking in Killian's ear piece. He then holsters his gun then puts his hand behind his back, he reaches for my hand and holds tight, almost reassuring me that everything will be ok.

I've never been in a position like this but one thing is for certain, it is my duty to save people and right now I need to do my duty regardless of what politics have to say. He then let's go of my hand and glances over his shoulder. "Can you save him?" "I won't know for sure until I open him up, I mean...." Killian then turns around.

"Emma can you save him, I don't need the complicated stuff, I just need to know if you can save him as a doctor." I look deep into his eyes and I could see how serious he was and that my decision would affect everyone. He is giving me the choice to do my duty, my purpose even if it means something bad for him.

"Yes I can save him." He nods then looks at Robin and gives him a nod. He glances over my shoulder as he grasps his gun. "Ok then Doctor Swan, save him." He points his gun at the man and the rest of the squad forms in front of us pointing their guns at their squad. The cocking of the guns still echoed even after the men had them out.

I was scared, I couldn't move a muscle, Killian is putting his life and career on the line for me. That's when I hear the heart monitor go off even louder. That was my cue to gather up all the courage I had left and do my job. "Take him to the ER," I say out loud and my team takes him away.

I stood there as the squad stands their ground. Killian glances over at me as I make my way to the OR. "Be careful," he softly says. I nod as I touch his shoulder. "You too and thank you." He gives me a half smile as I walk inside the OR.

I see everyone prepping him, I go and get myself ready to operate on him. I just hope that I can save him in time.
