Rightfully hers

Chapter 1

Alex Foster couldn’t help it at how hard his heart was hammering in his chest. Victoria looked pouty but he hardly cared. His mind was still focused on the last words she had spoken.

“I think I’m pregnant.” It would be an absolute, dream come true if she was. He held back a smile as he ran his hands up and down her arms. She trembled but quickly moved away.

“Stop it Alex. Isn’t this how we got into this mess in the first place?”

Mess, what mess? He was more than shocked that she would be standing in their bedroom calling their possible child a mess. He was an Alpha and his child would be the next future alpha. “Victoria surely you don’t mean that.”

“I do. I’m going to get fat. You know the kind of fat that never goes away. I’m a model for goodness sakes.” It was moments like this that he wondered how she was even his mate.

He felt his anger flare and tried to write her hysteria off as shock but he knew she meant every hateful word she spoke. His wolf was howling inside from the words her words. She had made it more than clear that she didn’t want any children. He just wished she would have told him before he married her or even before he fell in love and marked her. A knock at the door brought him out of his thoughts. Victoria ran to the door and flung it open. He could just make out her assistant Tasha as she handed over a brown paper bag then disappeared. “What’s that?” Victoria ignored him as she ran into the bathroom closing the door. He heard the definite lock slide into place and knew he would have to wait for an answer. He headed down stairs and into the kitchen where he saw Diana, their cook bustling about the kitchen. He had known her his whole life. She was more like a mom to him since he had never come to really know his mom.

“Something smells great Diana.” She smiled.

“Thank you Alex, I was only making lasagna. The other boys insisted on it.”

“My favorite.” He watched Dian slave over the stove before a thought occurred to him.

“What are your plans for the Christmas holiday?”

“You know how the family loves to get together. How about you?”

“I’m not sure.”

“You know you can always come home with me.”

He laughed. “I wouldn’t want to burden you.”

“Nonsense, so what’s going on? I think I heard her crying from way down here.”

“Nothing.” He hoped it was something. He wanted it to be a little something with little feet and hands and….A yelp came from upstairs causing Diana to drop a bowl. Alex ran ignoring Diana’s questioning stares. He made it to the bedroom in no time at all to find Victoria bouncing about. She ran into Alex’s arms. “Look!” she shouted.

For the first time he noticed the little thing in her hand. He knew it was a pregnancy test. He reached for it but she pulled away.

“I’m not pregnant!” It seemed that all the air left him and he just stood there.  Victoria hardly noticed since she was getting what she wanted.

“You’re not?” Alex sounded a bit breathless but he couldn’t control the emotions that were raging through him. He felt let down, and heartbroken. His father would be at him about producing an offspring to ensure the future of the pack.

“Honey, I don’t understand why you want a kid so bad and so early.” He sighed. Of course Victoria wouldn’t understand.

“Would you even care if I told you?” he shot back. She frowned putting her hands on her hips.
