Alex POV
Alex bolted up in the bed from Emma’s terrible screams. He looked to the side of the bed and saw that it was empty. Panic surged through him. “Emma?”
“Alex!” he went to the bathroom flipping on the light. She sat their panting on the floor with a puddle underneath her. “My water just broke and…” She gritted her teeth. “The pain is unbearable.” This was the moment they had been waiting for. Everyone had felt apprehensive about the baby considering that Emma had done miraculous things in the past months. She shifted and killed a rogue alpha, two things that had definitely put strain on her body.
She screamed and he jumped back into action. He picked her up and took her to the bed. She was running a fever and her breathing was uneven. “Call the doctor.”
Alex sent the doctor a thought and he in turn got an urgent response.
“He said to make you comfortable until he gets here.” Alex paced the room
“What the hell am I suppose to do?”
“Alex, you could hold my hand.”
He sat down next to her and took her hand. They didn’t speak mostly because Emma was trying to catch her breath between contractions and he was busy trying to ignore the pain in his hand. Soon the doctor and Margret ran in looking excited. He motioned for Alex to move and then he took a look. “Oh my.”
“What is it?”
“The baby is crowning.”Alex wanted to look but a part of him screamed no. “Okay Emma, you have Alex right there with you so don’t be scared.” She nodded vigorously.
“Okay Emma push. Push” She did. She held in her scream but he could see she was hurting. His wolf was going crazy.
“Okay Emma.” She relaxed.
“Push.” She did and soon Alex heard a wailing. He looked to the doctor holding a very messy but beautiful baby boy. The doctor did the necessary thing in order to clean the baby. Emma was still breathing hard. “ Doctor is she okay?” Dr. Walter’s handed the baby to Margret.
“Emma are you okay….” His eyes bulged as he rushed to her side.
“Emma listen to me. Do you feel that urge to push you do it okay.” She nodded and pushed.
Alex didn’t know what the hell was going on. Soon he got his answer a tiny cry filled the room. He watched the doctor lift up a smaller baby than the first. A girl, Alex couldn’t believe it.
Emma was smiling now but she looked beyond tired. Alex kissed her head and moved towards the doctor. He wanted to get a closer look at his children. Margret handed him the baby. He walked back to the bed placing him in Emma’s arms. She was crying and he was pretty sure he was too. He went back to where the doctor stood swaddling his little girl. “She’s so tiny.”
“She’s human.” Alex looked at the doctor. The doctor only nodded confirming what he heard was true.
Alex held his daughter against him. “Is my son….”
“Werewolf.” The doctor patted his shoulder. Alex looked down at his daughter with eyes like his.
“You’re definitely going to be a hand full.” He looked back at Emma who was watching him. He walked over to the bed and the doctor and Margret left them with their babies.
“You okay?”
He was staring down at her daughter with so much love. He looked at his son in Emma’s arm. he knew he would have her eyes. “I’m just fine. A little blown away right now.” He sighed.
“You know, this little one took after you.” Emma smiled. She watched him watching their daughter intently. “I’m worried” he said.”
“Don’t be. We will protect her and I’m pretty sure her brother will be there for her as well.”
“We both know that that doesn’t work out all the time. I'm an Alpha and it'll put her in danger.”
“Well we’ll teach them to look out for each other. That that’s how it should be. We can't fail them as parents if we rely on each other.”
He kissed her fore head. “What should we name out little Angles?” He smiled.
Four years Later:
The first thing Emma did when she opened her eyes was listen. She got out of bed and walked to the balcony overlooking the back yard. She watched as Alex and their two children were sitting down near the lake. She smiled before going to take a shower. When she was done she got dressed and headed out to see what they were doing. Emma walked up, neither noticing her as they talked about wolves. Aiden stood up. “Daddy can we go for a run?” Aiden was far from shifting but the wolf in him wouldn't let him stay still for long.
“I want to go!” Eden protested.”
I’m sure you both can fit on my back.”
“She’s not even…”
“Aiden!” Alex stopped him.
“Sorry Eden.”Aiden said. Alex looked back and blew Emma a kiss. She wondered if he knew she was there all along. “Look who it is.”
“Mommy!” Eden said as she came running over. Emma swooped her up into her arms. She was still tiny but had a fiery temper. “Let’s go dad.” Aiden waved to his mother all the while trying to pull his father along. Eden started to cry because she wanted to go along as well. Emma didn’t miss the fact that Eden was more attached to her father than she was to her. It didn’t bother Emma though.
“Come here sweetheart.” Emma smiled as Eden got down and jumped into Alex’s arms. He kissed her on the cheek making her giggle, and then he whispered something into her ear. Eden nodded vigorously. Alex put her down and she came back running. She took Emma’s hand into her own tiny one. She looked at her the only way a child could look at a parent they adored. Emma sent Alex a thought. “What did you say to her?”
He closed the distance between them, and out loud he said,
" I told her that you are the most important person in our lives and that I’m entrusting her to look after you while I’m gone. To make you smile and hug you every minute I’m away, so that you know you’re loved.
He kissed Emma and they both laughed when they heard, “Ewe.” from Aiden.
Emma shook her head as she and Eden made their way back to the house.
“Come on dad!”Aiden shouted.
Looking at his son and back to his wife and daughter, Alex felt an overwhelming but welcoming sense of being blessed.
