Alex was surrounded by Victoria’s family and old pack members. “Merry Christmas!” everyone had shouted when more people came into the room. Sara Decker had planned a nice Christmas get together but what he wanted was to see Emma. He couldn’t remember having a need this bad but being under the watchful eyes of her family made it kind of hard to fulfill. He kept catching Adam watching him with something like pity in his eyes. Victoria held onto his arm the entire night. She was giddy about something but he didn’t know what. He hardly cared. He got a moment to himself when everyone went to exchange present. Victoria had insisted that they do their exchange later and he had been more than happy to oblige. He found himself wondering towards the stairs but before he could make up his mind to mount them, Victoria had her grip on him once again. “Come meet my cousins Babe.”

He wanted to do anything but. He regretted letting Victoria drag him over to the group of ladies. They all seemed to flirt with him and Victoria hardly noticed or cared. She was showing him off.

“Hey Alex, can you do me a huge favor?” He turned to see Adam walking up.

“What is it Adam?” Victoria didn’t try to keep the ice out of her voice.

“It’s a little embarrassing.”

Victoria tightens her grips on Alex’s arm. All the girls seemed to stare at him. He sighed.

“If you must embarrass me Victoria, Alex I want to know if you can give me some pointers on talking to this girl.”

All the girls giggled and Alex seemed to wonder what the hell was going on. Adam seemed like the ladies man before he was sure he saw him hooking up with a girl in the corner.

“Let him help Victoria. We all need to gossip anyway.” said one blond girl, who winked at Alex, then pushed him away. Alex followed Adam through the crowd and near the stairs. “Here”

Adam placed a little box into his hands. “They’re earrings so don‘t freak out.”

“Okay, what should I do with….”

“They’re your cover. Go up stairs and tell Emma that I was too shy to give these to her. If someone see’s you up there just tell them you were doing me a favor.”

Alex smiled as he watched Adam walk away. He went upstairs and when he was at her door he took a deep breath and knocked.

“Come in.” He opened the door and saw her sitting up in bed with a look of surprise in her eyes. She was sniffling and he could tell she had been crying. He held back a growl.

“What’s wrong?” He looked around her room and after not seeing any one he looked back to her.

“Sorry, you caught me at a tearful moment, dang movie.” He chuckled.

“So what can I do for you Alex?”

He liked the way she said his name and more importantly the thoughts that came after her innocent question. “Actually I wanted to see you.”

“Me, but why?” He handed her the box.

“Adam was a little shy to give you this himself.” She took the box hardly looking at it.

“And…” she said.

He shrugged. “I don’t know how to explain it to you but…except to say that you are my…mate.” There, he just spat it out. She made a funny face. “That word again.”

“You don’t believe me?”

“It’s a sweet term of endearment but no, I don’t believe that I’m yours.” She seemed to have trouble saying the last part. “Besides you’re with my sister. You’re married for goodness sake.”

“I’m aware but I can’t seem to get you out of my mind.”

He heard her breath catch and she shook her head but didn’t speak.

“You think about me too, admit it.”

“I…”

“Alex, there you are.” They turned to see Victoria standing in the doorway. He sighed and tried to keep his composure. Victoria smiled and squeezed his arm. “What are you doing honey?”

He just delivered Adam’s gift to me.” Emma held up the box so she could see it.

“What did he get you?”

She flipped the box open and smiled. “Earrings.” She looked up at him. “Tell him they’re beautiful.” Alex nodded feeling a bit of jealousy.

“Since we’re all here how about we tell Alex about our agreement Emma?”

“What agreement?”Emma shifted in her bed.

“Emma has agreed to carry our baby.” Alex couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his lips. Victoria read it as if he was happy she was finally giving him what he wanted but Alex was smiling at the thought of his child possibly growing inside of Emma.

“She’s going to come back home with us. My parents aren’t to know about this.”

He was still looking at Emma who was now offering him a small smile. He cleared his throat before letting Victoria lead him out. He wanted to say more to Emma but his wolf was excited all the same.

Victoria pulled him into their room closing the door. She ran her hands down his chest.

“I’m so turned on by you right now. I can smell your lust.” He swallowed as she trailed kisses along his neck. He wanted to pull away but he was so stunned that he just stood there with his hands at his side. Emma was going to live in his house only a room or so away. She’s going to carry his child, and he was going to see her for months at a time. He had dreaded leaving her. He hadn’t been sure about how he was going to do it.”

He felt Victoria’s lips on his and his mind suddenly registered what was happening. He pulled back. “We should celebrate honey.”

“We are. “She kissed him again.”

“I should go tell Adam that Emma loved his gift. Otherwise he’s going to come asking.”

Victoria let out a frustrating sigh. “Fine but he should really do it himself. Everyone knows he wants her to be his. He’s not going to get anywhere if he doesn’t do it himself.”

Alex held back a growl and left the room. Going down stairs he found Alex talking with another guy in the corner. He spotted Alex and walked over to him but before he could reach him Alex disappeared into another room. Adam followed thinking that Emma must have hated his gift. He entered the room that Alex had gone into. It was completely dark here. As soon as he was inside he felt the wind leave him. Realization set in. Alex had just punched him in the stomach.

“What the hell man?”

“You do want her for yourself.”

“Alex are you insane?” He could see Alex’s eyes flashing. His wolf was coming out.

He was suddenly up against the wall. Alex’s hands were clasped around his throat.

“Alex listens to me. Emma’s my friend. I love her but not in the way that you do. I could never.”

He felt Alex’s hands ease off. He slumped to the floor and Alex just moved back. He ran a hand over his face before mumbling something that sounded like sorry.

“Its cool but keep that temper in check.”

“Sorry I just…Victoria said you had a thing for Emma.”

“It never went deeper than friendship with us. I helped her through a lot of sad times, mostly those that your wife caused.”

“What do you mean?”

“Nothing, just be careful with her heart. I don’t want to have to pick up the pieces again.”

Alex nodded. “I appreciate how much you care about her but I’m not going to hurt her.”

“That’s going to be tough considering that you’re with her sister. Despite all the crap that Victoria put her through, she won’t let you hurt her. She’s going to be stubborn.”

“Yea. What would you do?”

“Keep trying because Emma is definitely worth it.”
