The reception was beautiful but Alex could see that his new wife was exhausted. After thanking everyone they retired to his room. They laid in bed just staring at each other.  Her stomach stood out against her pearl white dress making him reach out and rub it. He smile feeling the baby kick.

“Whoa! That was really strong.”

Emma laughed. “Yeah, I think he may be part werewolf part soccer player or just plain mean.”

Alex chuckled. “He?”

Emma frowned. “I don’t know why I said that.”

“You’re tired, go to sleep.”

“It’s our wedding night.”

“Emma, we’re not making love. As bad as I want to we can’t.”

She gave him a pouty look and kissed his lip. Her hand ran down his body making him gasp. He laughed.  I’m so going to make you pay once our kid is out of you.”

Emma laughed. He moved a strain of hair from her eyes and kissed her. It reminded her of the first time they kissed, just the softnee of it all. “I have a surprise for you.” Alex said as he got to his feet he opened the end table and held out a long black box to her. She sat up and took it. Opening it she gasped.

She held up the bracelet and saw the engraving.

“To Emma, the light of my life and keeper of my heart.”

She felt a tear slip past her eyelids. He kissed them away.

Emma wasn’t sure what time it was when she awoke. The steady pitter patter of rain had a soothing sound so that wasn’t at all what woke her. She rolled over feeling that the side of the bed was empty. She saw him standing near the balcony looking out into the night.

“Alex?”

“I’m right here. Did I wake you?”

“No. Why are you over there?”

“Just thinking, I’m an Alpha so I can’t help it.”

Umm, Emma got up and made her way over to him. She wrapped her arm around his neck.

“How come I can’t hear your thoughts? Are you blocking me?”

“Yes but only because you don’t need to worry.”

“Tell me anyway because looking at you I can clearly see there is something wrong. So now I'm worried.”

He sighed. “My brother has planned an attack on us. He plans to attack tomorrow.”

“We get organized, we…”

“No we. I want you and the baby safe.”

“You’re my husband.”

“You’re my wife and I say no.”

“I need to be there with you.”

“Emma it’s too dangerous. I’ll be worried about you and not focused.”

Emma sighed. “Fine.” She threw her hands up and went back to the bed. She was pissed, Alex could clearly feel it but he also felt something else, determination.

Alex POV.

She didn’t want to leave Alex. She watched him as he packed her things because she had refused to. “I’m only packing the necessary things since you’ll be back to me in no time.”

She sat there staring at him but she hadn’t uttered a word all morning.  He sighed.

“You’re not talking to me? Damit I’m doing this for your own good.”
