Emma stood in Alex’s study, looking out into the night. He had left only moments ago to address his pack. She had been asked to stay here and she had obeyed. She had talked to Adam and Andrea and she apologized for her behavior but asked them to go straight home. Being the good friends they were, they understood her dilemma. She heard someone clear their throat. She turned to see Alex standing there leaning against the frame of the door. “What are you thinking?” she asked.

“How beautiful you look right now.”

She sighed. “I’m sorry I came back, it was just something pulling me here.”

“A part of me is happy you came then another part of me is afraid and angry.”

“Will you be okay?”

He nodded. “As long as you stay out of sight. Don’t let them see you because they will try to get to me through you.” He walked over to her. “Promise me that no matter what you will remain out of sight.”

“Alex….”

“Just promise me.”

“I…” A howl sounded in the distance alerting them that the enemy was close. Alex kept his eyes on her waiting. “Promise me.”

“I promise.” She looked away as she said it. He kissed her on the lips then just like that he was gone. It took all her will power not to follow her mate into battle. She was his other half, what would he do without her? What would she do without him? Her thoughts were lost as the sound of a stamped reached her ears. It was defining. The tower, she would be able to see everything from there. She ran trying to get there before it all happened.

Alex POV

He cleared his mind telling himself that he had a lot to live for so he had better win. He had Emma, a baby on the way and a pack to run. He shifted into his wolf and marched down the steps. His pack bowed to him as he let his Alpha strength show. He moved to his position at the front of the line. Again another howl pierced the air. He closed his eyes and remembered the one thing that means the world to him then he charged. His pack didn’t hesitate to follow. He saw Paul and his pack emerging out of the tree line at a full run. He bared his teeth at his brother and leaped. The impact was defining. He watched Paul land with a thud before rolling over. He was on his feet in seconds. He lunged again snapping at Alex’s face. His teeth grazed his muzzle, drawing blood. Alex positioned his body ad got a grip on Paul’s neck causing him to cry out in pain. Paul twisted his body and got free. Alex could taste his blood in his mouth. Rogue blood had an odd taste. He felt distracted for a moment. That was all Paul needed to gain the upper hand. He snapped at Alex’s leg breaking it. Another wolf rammed him and he suddenly realized that they weren’t fighting fair. Alex let out a howl of pain and snapped at Paul’s side. Alex felt Paul clamp down on his neck. He didn’t whimper from the pain.

Paul~

Paul tried to not let his emotions take over him. He tried to keep a clear mind as he circled Alex. How long had he waited for this moment? It seemed like forever. He was going to make him pay. He heard a growl and followed the sound to the tower. He took in Emma’s enraged look but she didn’t seem to notice him at all. She was starring right at Alex.

Emma POV

Emma burst through the door just as the two sides collided. She gasped when she saw the ground below. Everything was moving so fast. She saw Alex’s wolf eyeing another more lighter shade of wolf. That had to be Paul. He was the same size as Alex but looked wilder. She watched as the wolf lunged for Alex’s face and she saw the blood dripping from her face she growled. She felt intense pain and knew that Alex had let his guard down.  She couldn’t stop her body from moving as she jumped from the tower shifting in mid air. She landed on the roof and ran along the ledge. She leapt and landed on all fours without missing a beat she ran towards her mate. She earned a few stares from both sides before the fight resumed. Emma had no idea what she was about to do, she knew she wanted to help her mate. She could see Paul with his muzzle clamped around Alex’s neck. She put her head down low as she rammed into him. She felt the air leave Paul and watched him fly through the air landing on his side. He slid a few feet. Alex growled she turned to see him watching her with an emotion she couldn’t decipher.
