Emma was lost. Thinking she had spent enough time here she figured she should know her way around. She heard someone clear their throat and turned to see a man watching her. She didn’t miss the resemblance to Alex so she knew this must be his father. She felt her palms sweat at his stern expression. “I’m sorry sir but did I disturb you?”
“Oh no, you just looked a little lost.”
She winced. “Is it that obvious?” he chuckled which seemed to transform his face.
“Actually it is but no worries. I guess you never been in this wing of the estate.”
“No sir.”
“Please call me Conner.”
“Conner?” He smiled.
“So what exactly are you looking for?”
“The library, Diana told me you have one.”
“Ah yes, it’s just down here.” He motioned for her to follow him. “You like to read?”
“I do.”
“Ah intelligent and beautiful.” She blushed at his words before they entered the huge room. It was the size of a small town public library. “Wow, you all have quit a collection.”
He chuckled. “Are you looking for anything in particular?”
“Were wolves.” He looked at her.
“I’m just curious.” She continued.
“Alex told you?”
“Yes and I feel so…lost. He told me a lot that I’m still trying to grasp but I figure I’ll start by learning some things about them.”
“You can always ask about our kind. A lot of the information you’ll fine here is historic but still helpful. If you want to know how modern wolves live then just ask Alex.”
“He seems so busy.”
“He’s an alpha. He has the weight of the world on his shoulders and he carries it well. But if I know him like I think I do, he’ll make time.”
“Thank you. So am I wasting my time here?”
“No you should read about us but explore your other options. Have you talked your parents?”
She felt a pang. “I haven’t. I’m not sure what I should say to them.”
“Whatever you want, I think you deserve the right too.” He patted her shoulder before leaving the room. She sighed and went about finding the perfect books to teach her a little something about were wolves. When she did she sat down and began reading.
