Emma POV

Emma couldn’t stop pacing. She couldn’t believe what had just happened and more importantly how she enjoyed it. She gave up trying to think her way out of it. Alex was hot but was her will power strong enough to deny him. Somehow she felt denying him would hurt him beyond words. She sighed and grabbed her sleeping wear. She headed down stairs and showered in the downstairs guest room. She contemplated on staying there for the night but knew Adam would be stopping in. She made her way back upstairs stopping to pet Cody on the head. “Sweet dreams Cody,” she whispered. She hurried back upstairs and entered her room. She climbed into bed and fell asleep. She wasn’t sure how long she slept but the sound coming from her window woke her up. She spun around to see a figure closing the window then walking towards her bed. For a moment she was frighten but then she relaxed at the sound of his voice.

“Did you forget I was coming?”

“Kind of.” She scooted over giving him room to lie down. “You smell like beer Adam.”

“Yeah well you smell funny too.” She laughed but couldn’t help but sniffed herself.

“Relax Em, I was only joking. You smell great as usual.” He pulled her into a tight hug. She rested her head against his shoulder. It wasn’t awkward at all because she could remember so many nights when he held her like this. Most of those nights were when she was nursing a broken heart.

“Are you drunk?” he laughed.

“Not really. So is your sister and her husband in the other room?”

“Yes, now go to sleep.”

Adam’s POV

He grunted but obeyed her command. He kept her in his arms partly because he wanted to protect her. When he heard from his father the alpha that another Alpha wolf was coming to town and would be staying at Emma’s house he felt an overwhelming need to be by his good friend.  His father had insisted that he had nothing to worry about since Alex was mated to Victoria but one could never tell. What if he brought another wolf with him? He decided to go with his gut feeling and show up here tonight. Good thing he did too because he could practically smell Alex Foster’s wolf begging to be let out. What he didn’t understand was why? Alphas can be so territorial maybe that was why. Could he have smelled him coming and thought of him as a threat to Victoria? Of course he could have but no he didn’t really like Victoria all that much but his heart went out to Emma automatically. He looked down at her sleeping form. He always wished she was a she wolf. She was only human without a trace of wolf in her blood. It was truly unheard of but that didn’t stop him from loving her so. It would have been so much easier to open up and just let her into his world. But his world was forbidden to her. The only reason why she had been allowed in their presence was because her family are wolves. She didn’t even know their kind existed. He wondered how her parents kept their secrets from her all these years. He remembered her father’s stern warning to him. If he said so much as the word wolf to his daughter, he would never see her again. By then he already saw Emma as his dearest friend. Emma sighed and snuggled deeper into him. Funny how this tiny human girl in his arms made more waves in his life than those of his kind.

Alex POV

His eyes flew open and he sniffed the air. He let out a warning growl at the smell of another wolf. He looked to see Victoria watching him with wide eyes. Had he growled so loud that he had awoken her? “What’s wrong Alex?”

He frowned. Could she not smell the male wolf? “Do you not smell that?”

She sniffed then sighed. “It’s fine. I know that scent well. That’s Emma’s friends Adam.”
