“Goodbye Mrs. Decker.” Emma held back the tears as her little pre-k kids hugged her goodbye.

She was happy the bell had rung because she was about ready to bawl her eyes out. She watched until every child had left then turning to Andrea she cried.

“Are you sure you’re going to do this?”

“Yep.”

“Why?”

“My sister really needs me and I can’t tell you why not right now anyway.” Andrea only nodded.

“So you’re not sick or anything like that because I would be so devastated.”

Emma laughed. “For the ten thousandth time Andy, I’m not.”

“Okay. Will I be able to come and visit you?”

“Ten months is a long time so I don’t see a reason to say no.”

“There’s never a reason to say no to me.”

Emma laughed then gave her friend a big hug. They cut off the lights and made their way to the parking lot. “So who’s coming to get you?”

“My sister, she should be here any minute now.”

“I’ll wait.”

“No, Andrea. Go home and I promise I’ll call you once I’m settled in.”

“Fine but if you miss me or that Adam guy, call us and we’ll come get you. Eberton is only four hours from here.”

“I will.” Andre got into her car and Emma waved goodbye to her. She sighed sitting on the bench outside. She took out a magazine and did a crossword puzzle. She probably sat there for two hours when she saw an SUV pull up and she began gathering her things. “Victoria why are you so late? I could have drove….”

“She stopped, taking in the person before her. “Alex?”

“Hi Emma, It’s nice to see you.” They stood for a moment starring at each other.

“Where’s Victoria?”

“She got called away to work so I came and got you myself.”

“Okay.” She walked towards him and he suddenly took the suitcases from her hands.

“Thanks.” She walked around the truck and again he was besides her opening the door.  She climbed up into his truck and he closed the door. She was sure she was hyperventilating but she reminded herself that she had to spend four hours in this truck with him so she had better get it together. He climbed in next to her and sat there for a moment. She didn’t trust herself to ask him if he was okay. He started the truck and pulled away from the curve. Soon they were leaving her small town behind but she wasn’t too sad. She didn’t try to deny the fact that she was actually elated to be so near Alex.

He had surprised her when he suddenly spoke an hour into their trip.

“So do you want to play a game Emma?”

“What kind of game?”

“Just questions, you can ask me anything you want and I do the same. If you choose to not answer me, I get something in return, nothing drastic though.”

“Okay, it sounds harmless enough.” He chuckled and begins the game.

“What kind of music do you like?”

“It’s whatever for me. What’s your favorite?”

“I like most everything as well. What’s the last book you ever read?”
