M I A

I opened my eyes and the first thing that caught my eyes was the alarm clock that was seated peacefully on the nightstand beside my bed.

7:28 a.m., it read.

The room was filled with a dim light from the bright morning sun, which streamed in through a slit between the cream coloured curtains. It was dead silent which made the atmosphere so peaceful, and I couldn't think of a better quiet way to be awoken by.

It didn't take long for me to figure out what today was, and when I remembered, I was instantly on my feet. Without wasting any time, I headed to the bathroom and took a quick warm shower. That was when I started my day.

Not long after I finished, I left the bathroom and headed back to my room. My bag was already packed and was placed by the foot of my bed, all ready to go, which had just some clothes and books. So, I grabbed the outfit that I picked out last night and changed it hastily.

After a few minutes, I found myself in front of the mirror, hurriedly fixing my hair into pigtails. I was dressed casually and comfortably in a pair of black jeans and a grey sweatshirt. And after giving myself a quick one glance in the mirror, I slipped my feet into some sneakers and was ready to leave.

I grabbed my bag but paused for a slight moment when I was about to leave. I stood back and looked at the neat yet lifeless room for the last time. Thoughts were running through my mind about the silence that accompanied me for as long as I've been here. The white blank walls made me question my existence. And that nightstand that was filled with tons of medicines and sleeping pills.

Yeah, I was definitely not going to miss anything.

With one last look, I left behind all my internal negativity and sadness that was attached to my experience in this very room and slowly closed the door. I then walked down the hallway towards the elevator. With each step that I took, excitement and eagerness gee bigger inside of me.

It was a couple of minutes past eight in the morning. Despite the early time, the care house managed to be filled with doctors, nurses and patients─all hanging out in the hallways.

A 'ding' echoed in the elevator as the metal doors closed automatically. I stomped my feet in an attempt to match the beat of the low classical music that filled the air, whilst I waited impatiently to reach my destination.

A 'ding' noise echoed again which indicated that I had reached the ground floor. The doors opened and a few nurses entered after I had exited the elevator.

I walked towards the main lobby where I finally met up with Charlotte and a bulky looking man whom she was chatting with within the meantime. He wasn't wearing a lab coat─which thankfully meant that he wasn't a doctor or nurse─but instead he wore a black and white tuxedo.
"Good morning, Charlotte," I greeted with a small smile.
