After a week of school, I decided it was the right time to move into the gang house. I wanted to give them time to recover from losing their gang member before I come barreling in with all of my stuff.
Daniel said they wouldn't mind and most of them were excited to get another member and the others didn't really care.
During the week, we had the ceremony for the deceased and it was a very emotional day. The whole house seemed to be grim for hours, but Nina told people that it was about celebrating their life and the good times they had with them and after that, people seemed to cheer up and they began sharing funny stories about the people who had not made it out of battle that day.
At my time in school, I spent a lot of time hanging out with Daniel and the few people from his gang that still went to school. I often floated between the gang house and my moms, everyone seemed to be happy with the situation. Damon stayed on the football team, but promised he wouldn't become 'one of the jocks.' I accepted it, as long as he was happy.
The days flew by and in a flash, we had our first week-long break off of school. It was a harvest break that our school had when students still helped their families with farms, now it was just a tradition that carried over throughout the years.
I never saw my old friends, I didn't even know if they made it out of small battle. It made my heart sit uncomfortably in my chest. Even after everything they did to me, I could bare not knowing what had happened to the people that kept me going to years after Braun's death.
Nina and I have grown very close over the past few weeks and I feel lucky to have such wonderful people in my life. I told mom that she was Daniel's old step sister who moved in with him a few years ago so I don't have to worry if I ever talk about her.
It seemed surreal when I first moved in with Daniel. Whenever I woke up in the morning, it was always a shock to be in his arms. Every once in a while I would wake up from a nightmare, not knowing where I was, but Daniel was always there to calm me down.
Riiinnngggg
Daniel's phone made me jump, bringing me back to the present. Daniel abruptly stopped picking through the fridge to answer it.
He was completely silent, only listening to what was being said before swearing under his breath and shoving his phone back in his pocket.
He looked at me with a sad expression, "I just got a notice that your dad got out of prison. He's looking for you, Jai."
Everything seemed to freeze. Time stood still and the earth stopped rotating, plummeting within the universe. A giant dark hole seemed to swallow my entire existence.
"What?" Even I could hear the crack in my voice. Black and green orb-like spots take over my vision, I stumble back against the kitchen counter. My knees became weak and I felt myself crumble to the floor. Then, everything stopped, everything went completely black.
Voices floated around me, bringing me back into consciousness. I feel my eyes start to flutter open, I rub them to help the process.
I noticed the familiar black and red room that Daniel and I now shared. In the corner of my eyes, I can see Damon and Daniel conversing quietly, I couldn't hear what was being said.
Damon turns to me so I can see him better, noticing me sitting up and leaning my back against the bed frame. His eyes looked red from rubbing them and his hair was standing up in different directions.
"You know?" I ask Damon since he was clearly in distress.
"Yeah, Daniel told me everything. You've been out for a little over an hour, we're thinking you had a panic attack and passed out.
"But that's not all you missed. Damon and I got talking and I decided that I am going to join the gang with you. I don't want to live in the gang house, maybe that will change in the future, but I want to be there for you and I want to kick dads ass. So, I decided the best way for me to do that is by joining the gang. You guys can call me when you need me or I can run errands or whatever gangs do. This way I can keep an eye on you, too," Damon says, I can't disguise my shock.
"Oh my god! Are you serious?" I ask more than flabbergasted.
"Yep. We should all go get matching tattoos. I heard that everyone has the gang symbol which is two hands coming together with a ring on each hand that has an R for Requiem. It's actually pretty sweet. I'm actually kind of excited to be a part of this new world, and I am glad that I get to share it with my brother," he says animatedly. I don't tell him that I had seen the tattoo on Daniel, it was hard to miss. I gave him this one.
A smile makes its way onto my face. At first, I didn't want him in harm's way but I know that it is his choice and I'm glad that he's not scared of it. I have to admit it's kind of cool to be in a gang with your boyfriend and twin.
He makes his way over to me, sitting next to me and telling me how great it will be. I let him distract himself from why he was here, at least for a little while.
I go on to tell him about Nina and my old friends and how nice and accepting the gang is. I also tell him how much everyone respects each other and I'm sure that he will get along with everyone. I even tell him that we can get the tattoo together.
We eventually get to the subject that no one really wants to talk about but we have been avoiding it for far too long-father.
