It had been a month since we got our tattoos and things have been going pretty smoothly. The weather had started to chill with the start of fall. School and training went smoothly and Damon and I now carried our own hand guns, the only exception being school.
My dad had made contact, saying he wanted to see us. We planned a meeting through a third party.
"Okay, when are we leaving?" I ask Daniel while we go over the plan for tonight.
"We are leaving at 6 pm. The fighters are going to be arriving at 6:15, so we need to keep him talking until then. Whatever you do don't make him too mad and don't try to fight him. He is more experienced than us and he will most likely have the upper hand. So, we need to wait for the other fighters to arrive before we do anything like that. There are no lives being risked, well besides your fathers."
Time seems to pass painfully slow, giving my nerves even more time to kick into overdrive. Everyone seems to be on edge, going over the plan several times.
Daniel, Damon, and myself are supposed to meet up with him to talk at an abandoned barn in the field a few minutes away from here. Then, a van full of fighter will arrive and we will kill my father-well that's the plan.
When we arrive at the old barn I take a look at it. No wonder it's abandoned, the wood was dark with rot and there were random gaping holes in the roof where the wood had fallen off completely. I give Daniel and Damon a glance that asks 'are you ready'. When they both nod we walk into the barn.
"Ah, they finally show up. You are, in fact, three minutes late. But, don't worry, I won't hold it against you," a man with short grey hair and crooked teeth says. He looked different than the last time I had seen him. His nose was crooked from being broken too many times and random poorly done tattoos crawling up each arm.
"You wanted to talk and I'm guessing it's not about our arrival skills. Maybe we should move this along," Daniel says while looking at his watch.
"Yes, of course. I understand that your gang has been doing quite well, however, mine is not. After being left in the hands of a new temporary leader in my departure, it had taken a turn for the worst. We lose more money and men by hour. I need young fresh blood in my gang to get things rolling in the right direction, and how great would it be if my heirs took it over?" No one makes a move to say anything else, so he continues.
"We could keep my gang in the runs forever. We could be on top again. Of course, after training them to be as ruthless as we are. Eventually, I will have to retire so it would be great if Damon and Jaidian would come with me today to start the process. So, what do you say Jaidian? Damon?"
"I say that my names not Jaidian. It's Jaidon. If you can't handle a name how do you expect to handle the body that comes with it?" This makes him agitated and Daniel sends me a warning glance.
"My mistake. But we all make mistakes, right Jaidon? I understand that you have made quite a few mistakes lately. In my defense, your name was originally going to be Jaidian, but your mother didn't like it. Ungrateful bitch she was. What's your excuse Jaidon?"
"I guess daddy didn't raise me right."
Out of the corner of my eye I can see Daniel clench his jaw as my father becomes even more agitated, clenching and unclenching his fists while sending me a vicious glare. Damon however, fights to contain a smile.
"Watch it, boy, you better shut that mouth and come with me or I am going to kill your brother and your boyfriend over there and then drag you myself," he says as he pulls a gun out of his waistband, pointing it at Damon. A cold sweat runs down my back.
"Now I do admit, it would be more beneficial to have both of you but if you need a push Jaidon, I am more than willing to give it."
My head is coming up with a million ways that this could turn out and none of them seem favorable. Daniels' hands are clenched into fists but he stays silent, glancing at his watch. We had never anticipated that this would happen.
Suddenly, more guys appear from behind the barn and they start flooding in, also armed. I can see Daniel looking at his watch. He faces me and mouths 'four more minutes'. I need to keep him talking for four more minutes. My heart is beating out of my chest at the sight of a gun pointed at Damon's head.
"Okay okay! But tell me, what is your plan if I join you?" I ask my eyes shifting from the gun to my father.
"Well, I will train you myself to make sure you can get the job done. We will brand our own drugs, ship weapons over seas, and take our rival gangs. Then you will eventually take over so I can retire. You better choose quickly my patience is running out, child."
"Okay," I say and I start slowly moving forward.
"Okay?" Daniel asks, looking somewhat confused.
"Yeah, okay. I will go with him," I have nearly made it to him when I reach grab my gun from my waistband, jumping in front of him.
Two loud bangs fill the barn. Then my father and I both fall to the ground. I can see the fighters from our gang filling the barn, looking fierce.
I see Daniel and Damon both hovering above me with their lips moving but the only thing that I can hear is the bang ringing in my ears.
