Nine years later

As the years went by you and Toby became the best of friends. You were never apart from each other and always hung out both inside and outside if school. You had other friends as well however Toby only had you which meant he was often alone when you were with your other friends. You had gotten into the habit of covering up your birthmarks with makeup or gloves when you went to school because you were afraid of what people would think. People at school  made fun of Toby for his tics and stuttering so much that he was now being homeschooled. It made you sad to know that you wouldn't see him at school anymore but you still talked to him.

Today was just like any other day for you. Your alarm went off at half past six and you got up to do you daily routine. You walked to the bathroom and looked at your reflection in the mirror. Your were now sixteen and you obviously looked a lot different from when you where young. Your (h/c) hair had grown quite a bit and you had a more mature figure now. You had small dark circles around your eyes from the lack of sleep and stress from homework. After taking a shower you went back to your room and got changed into your favourite outfit, dried your hair and took out your makeup bag. You had gotten extremely good and covering up the marks on your hands. You reached down to take out a sponge from the bag but then hesitated. A sharp frown washed over your face as you picked up the bag and messily dumped all of its contents into the bin. Today was going to be different. Today you were going to be yourself.

You styled your hair and walked downstairs inhaling the sent of waffles as you walked past the kitchen. Your mum gave you a sweet smile before going back to cooking breakfast and your dad was sat at the table reading the news paper. You glanced at the paper your dad was looking at and saw an article about people disappearing in the woods by your neighbourhood. Why would anyone go there alone? Although I guess it would be kind of cool you thought to yourself as you grabbed a waffle from the kitchen and took a bite out of it. Your mother seemed to notice your lack of gloves and smiled st you. "Seems that your feeling a bit more confident today (y/n)." She said with wide eyes. You just smiled and gave her a small nod before grabbing your bag and heading out of the door. "Bye mum, bye dad I'll see you guys later!" You called before closing the front door.

The walk to school was quiet and peaceful. Not many cars came along this particular road so the morning was nice and quiet. Birds flew out of the lush green trees and sang angelic songs to each other from the branches. The sky was a crystal clear blue colour with fluffy white clouds drifting along and covering the sun every so often. You closed your eyes and inhaled the crisp morning air as a light breeze brushed against your face and pushed strands of hair back behind you. You carried on walking with your earphones on listening to your favourite music until the bustling environment that was your school came into view.

As you walked through the halls to get to your first class you could practically feel everyone's stares on you. This would be the first time that anyone at school has seen the marks on your hands. You knew this would happen but you actually didn't mind that they were talking about you. You just hoped that people didn't start to spread false rumours about you. When you reached your first class you were greeted by the smiling faces of your two best friends Melody and Lilia. Melody had long jet black hair and deep blue eyes. She was alot more quiet and shy compared to you and Lilia but she was still a good friends to you. On the other hand, Lilia had a very outgoing personality and was a complete social butterfly. Anywhere you guys went she would make new friends or accidentally pick up a guy. She had wavy blonde hair and hazel eyes and she always wore bright clothes. Despite your contrasting personality's you all were the best of friends.

"OMG (Y/N)!!!!!!!!!! YOUR NOT WEARING ANY MAKEUP TODAY YOU LOOK SOOO PRETTY!" Lilia shouted at you from across the classroom. Melody gave a small nod and a sweet smile to show that she agreed with her friend. You couldn't help but blush slightly at her complement. "Haha thanks guys." You said whilst awkwardly scratching the back of your head and looking to the side. You took your seat between the both of them and sat down getting ready to start the day.
