Red...all I can see is, red? Why? What's going on? What happened? My heads throbbing, pounding. Is that my heartbeat I can hear or my head? Wait...I remember, Toby!
Your eyes shot open and you lurched forward, a cold sweat littered your entire body. Your head began to pound at the sudden movement causing you to groan and sink back down into the bed beneath you. Looking around you noticed that you were back in your room at the mansion. How you got there was a mystery that you intended to solve. I have to find Toby. You thought, once again beginning to sit up
Slowly, you moved your legs so they were hanging off the bed and prepared to stand. Your quest, however, was swiftly interrupted as the handle of the door began to move. You paused, eyes locked onto the door. "H-hello?" You called out meekly, afraid of what could be on the other side. As soon as your voice was sounded, the door swung open revealing a very tired, very worried looking Toby. "(Y/n)!"
"Toby!" He practically ran to you, encasing you in a warm yet gentle hug, holding you as if you were a porcelain doll that could break at any moment. It was like the moment you'd reunited all over again. Finally, he released you, crouching down in front of you while holding both your hands in his. Now that he was fully in front of you, you were able to see the damage that was done. Toby's pale face was littered with bruises and his left eye was noticeably blackened. His chocolate brown eyes racked over your face, inspecting every inch of your being for any signs of trauma. You sent him a gentle smile, freeing one of your hands from his grasp and tracing your fingers across his bruises.
He sighed and closed his eyes, leaning into your touch. "Are you okay?" You asked, voice hoarse and raspy. He nodded, holding your hand to his face and keeping it there. "I-I'm f-fine (y/n), I-it's y-you I-I'm worried a-about." His voice held only concern as did his eyes. You sighed, bringing your hand back to rest in your lap. "I...I can't remember very well. What happened Toby?" The look he gave you was almost pitiful. You hated it yet you knew he just felt bad. "T-that b-bastard attacked u-us, b-but don't w-worry...he w-won't bother us e-ever a-again." You nodded your head, understanding what he was implying. You brought your hand up to your neck and pressed down lightly, wincing as a light pain swept through your throat.
Toby gently brought your hand away. "D-don't (y/n), it'll o-only m-make it w-worse." Your eyes softened at his concern. "I'm sorry he hurt you, maybe if I'd been more careful I could've stopped him!" You said, memories of last nights events finally coming back. Toby shook his head. "Y-you sh-shouldn't b-blame yourself. It's m-my f-fault for letting y-you come w-with m-me." You offered him a kind smile, an idea popping into your head. "Let's take a break." He tilted his head to the side in confusion. "Huh?"
"I said, let's take a break. You know, get away from the whole killing thing...maybe go for a picnic or take a walk. Just a short break, even if it's just for an afternoon." The look on Toby's face wasn't really what you'd expected. To be honest, he looked as if you'd just proposed the most ridiculous idea he'd ever heard. "O-or not...if you don't like the idea." You cast your eyes to the ground, embarrassment flooding over you. All of a sudden, Toby chuckled, causing you to look up into his eyes. "Y/n l/n, a-are you trying t-to a-ask me o-out on a d-date?" Your face flushed red at his comment making a devious smirk appear on his lips. "I...erm, well..." Once again, he chuckled, leaning up close to your beet red face.
"I t-think it s-sounds l-like a wonderful idea for a-a first d-date." He whispered, his voice sent shivers down your spine. He continued to lean in and for a moment, his lips hovered over yours sending sparks of electricity as your breathing sped up. At the last moment, he moved up and placed a warm kiss on your forehead. "I-I'll l-leave you to r-rest up. You're g-gonna n-need to be r-ready f-for our date t-tomorrow." He said with a smirk, standing up and going to the door.
"Tomorrow?" You questioned, hair falling over your face as you tilted your head I'm confusion. Toby nodded, a grin plastered on his face. "Mhm, y-you need a-at least a f-full day to r-recover."
"That's true...and so do you. Go get some rest Toby, you look tired." Toby shook his head. "I c-can't sleep, b-believe m-me I've tried." Another idea snuck its way into your head. You scooted to the far side of the bed and lifted the covers, patting the empty spot beside you. "Maybe...this will help you sleep?" From where he was stood, you could see Toby's cheeks turn a light pink. Silently, he made his way back across the room and sat on the bed next to you.
He took off his boots before fully laying down and turning to face you. You followed his movements, resting your head on the same pillow as him. Your faces were inches apart and for a while he just laid there, studying every part of your being. "Goodnight, Toby." You whispered, moving a strand of hair away from his face. "Night, y/n." He responded breathily. Feeling a warm arm snake around your waist and pull you close, you closed your eyes and let sleep consume you once again.
Bit of a short chapter this time. Whoops!
