The wind whipped through your messy (h/c) hair as you continued running through the thick forest. Sharp branches and leaves scratched and clawed at your face leaving tiny cuts and marks scaring your usually smooth (s/c) skin. The morning sunlight filtered through the thick canopy of trees, casting shadows of the forest floor whilst illuminating your path with warm light. Your legs were sore and every muscle in your body was aching. But you had to keep going. You had to get away from the horrors that you'd just witnessed. Not to mention the police team that were currently hunting you down. Your breathing was heavy and your throat was parched but you couldn't stop now. The fact that you'd lost the cover of darkness definitely wasn't helping your case either. Keep moving. You have to keep going. You couldn't keep this up for much longer. Finally, your legs gave in thanks to the help of a small rock poking out of the mossy ground. "After all this I get taken down by a stupid rock." You mumbles to yourself before standing up and attempting to brush yourself free of dirt. Your clothes were now stained with mud and an assortment of leaves decorated your (h/l) hair. Taking a moment to catch your breath, you tried your best to rid your hair of the wildlife that had consumed it and carried on with your journey to nowhere.
After a few hours of aimlessly wandering the forest you eventually came across a small river flowing through the middle of the path. Small shiny pebbles with tiny white and green water flowers growing amongst them decorated the edge of the water. The stream made a peaceful bubbling noise that was almost lulling you to sleep with every passing moment. It was the most peaceful place you had been to in a while. Surely it won't hurt if I sit here fir a little while? You thought to yourself. You briefly scanned your surroundings to check if anyone had been following you before slowly taking off your shoes and sitting on top of a mossy rock next to the river. The moment your tired feet touched the crystal clear water you could instantly feel your muscles relax. You let out an exasperated sigh and closed your eyes, listening to the sounds of the forest. The cheerful songs of the birds and the calming sound of the stream almost made you forget about the events of the previous night. The air in the forest was so fresh and clear. It made you question what malice had in store for you next.
It was quiet. Too quiet. It was like the forest had come to a sudden standstill. The birds had stopped singing creating an eerie silence that hung over the forest like fog. You knew this silence all too well. Someone's coming. You quickly slid off of the rock and clumsily put your shoes back on out of fear that something was coming. Your instincts were screaming and begging for you to run, but for some unknown reason you stayed put. Suddenly, you heard it. It was such a simple sound yet it caused your heart beat to accelerate at record pace. A twig snapped. It could've just been an animal or the wind but you weren't taking any chances. You bolted towards the nearest tree and hastily scrambled as high as you could trying to shield yourself by the leaves in the process. A figure, that you soon recognised as a police officer, suddenly cane into view. They're looking for me? You thought as you desperately tried to control your breathing to make yourself more hidden. As he grew closer to your obvious hiding spot your palms grew sweaty from clinging to the tree branch. The rough bark dig into your hands making them sting but you didn't dare relax your grip. I can't stay like this forever! I need to do something about him!
Using every ounce of strength you had left, you leapt from the tree branch and kicked your stalker in the back of the head as hard as you could. The blow seemed to do more damage to you than it did to the police officer, as the moment your foot collided with his head you felt it twist in a way that wasn't possibly human. You rolled when you hit the floor to try and soften the landing, which seemed to actually work, and got some distance between you and the man. You hissed in pain as you tried to stand on your foot but immediately fell back down. Is it broken? You thought as you shifted all of your weight onto your uninjured foot. Just as you were about to reattempt standing up the faint click of a gun made you stop dead in your tracks "Freeze!" Demanded the man in a raspy voice. Your muscles tensed up and your throat went dry as he rose the gun up to aim it at your head. He reached his hand to the side of his jacket to grab what you assumed to be a walkie talkie. He's gonna contact more of them? I can't let that happen!
The second that your saw his guard drop you picked up a large rock and threw it at his head as hard as you could. Your actions clearly took him off guard as he stumbled back from surprise and from the force of the throw. Swiftly, you leaped forward using your good leg and yanked the gun from his hands leaving him defenceless. "W-wait a minute! D-don't shoo-" And that was it. You shot him. Without warning, without hesitation and without regret. And you shot him again. And again. And again. Over, and over and over until the clip was completely empty and all the buckets were resting in his corpse. Blood had splattered all over your face and clothes, but you didn't care. For some unknown reason you felt...alive. However, as your adrenaline calmed down and you returned to your senses you realised what you'd done. You cast your dull (e/c) eyes to the ground in shame and limped past the corpse of the police officer. "I've become a monster."
"Do not worry child. I have a place for people like you." You stopped walking and frantically scanned the area, searching for who the voice belonged to. "Who's there! What do you want?" You shouted out to your empty surroundings, hoping the voice would reply. "Calm yourself child. There is no need to fear me I promise I can help you. I only ask for one thing in return." "Go ahead, I'm listening." You replied whilst still looking around you trying to find the source of the voice. It sounded more like it was in your head than actually real but that couldn't be true. "I can provide you with a relatively safe environment to live in, but you have to work for me and complete certain...tasks." "What do you mean...'relatively' safe?" You asked, curious about what you were getting yourself into. "Some of my family members are slightly, strange. But I'm sure you'll fit in just fine with the rest of us." You sighed to yourself knowing that you have literally nowhere else to go. What's the worst that can happen. You thought before nodding your head slowly in acceptance. "Good. You'll need to follow me then." You scoffed and rolled your eyes at the stupid situation you'd gotten yourself into. "How exactly am I supposed to follow up when I can't even see y-AHHHHH!!!!" Out of sheer shock you stumbled over your own feet and fell flat of your back before desperately trying to scramble backwards away from the horror that stood over you. An unusually tall man had appeared out of nowhere in front of your remaking form. He wore a black suit with a red tie and had a deathly pale skin tone to match it. But the most distinct and haunting feature about this creature was it's none existent face. "Stand up child. It's time for us to leave." "B-but where are we going?" You asked, your voice wavering with fear. The man just leaned closer to your face and stayed in an amused tone three words that made your heart light up. "We're going home."
