Chapter 1

*GRACE POV*

"Come on you'll be late for school!' my annoying mother yelled from downstairs. I was checking myself in the mirror one last time before i left. I was wearing my black leggings with a plain black short sleeve shirt. I had a pink and black plaid flannel around my waist.

My long blonde hair was straight with a small piece on each side pulled back with a white bow in the back. My makeup was done lightly-concealer, mascara, and light pink lip gloss. i slipped on my white vans and checked myself one last time.

Once i was satisfied, I ran downstairs, grabbed an apple and I headed out the door after saying bye to my mom. I was thinking about a boy i like as i was walking down my porch. His name is Michael and I really like him. I have known him since elementary school.

I have liked him since last year but never had the guts to tell him. My thoughts were interrupted by a deep, soothing voice.

"Hey." Hayes said.

"Oh hey..." I said back as i jumped a little.

"A little jumpy eh?" he said giggling.

"Oh yeah, uh, sorry." i said slightly smiling.

"What's wrong?" he asked concerned.

"Nothing just thinking,"

" Alright, well we better hurry up or we are gonna be late to Mrs. Rinne's class. I heard she's giving out a pop quiz today." he said

"Oh craaap!" I yelled frustrated.

*HAYES POV*

Grace and I got to class on time, thankfully because Mrs. Rinne is the meanest teacher ever. This is my worst subject, science. I don't get any of it. I tend to zone out a lot, so i was thinking about someone. Grace.

She is so beautiful. I have known her forever, since we could crawl. We have been next door neighbors and best friends our whole life. I have never liked her though, but she changed over the summer. In a good way. Her hair got longer, she got rid of her braces and glasses. She's perfect. I didn't realize that I was staring at her, but I guess I was because she looked at me a giggled a little bit. I felt my face get red.

*GRACE POV*

I saw Hayes staring at me in class. I giggled because I thought he was kidding around like he always does, but his face got red when he realized he saw me. I was zoning out of Mrs. Rinne talking about our SOL scores arriving soon. I started thinking about Michael. How he is so cute, funny, nice, and so sweet.

He got up to sharpen his pencil and when he came back he looked at me and winked.
