Chapter 16

*GRACE POV*

I got a text from Hayes saying he was coming over in 10 minutes. And soon enough I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and Hayes had red puffy eyes. Was he crying? But I probably looked a lot worse.

"Hey." I said.

"Hey. So, I don't want you to be mad." he said.

"I'm only mad because you won't believe me."

"What's the truth?" He asked.

"He wanted to kiss me but I was going pull away. Then you came in. He said he still likes me but I don't like him." I explained.

"Then I believe you." he said taking my hand. I smiled. He looked into my eyes with an apologetic look. I wanted to stay mad but I got lost in his blue eyes.

He leaned in and kissed me for 10 seconds then he pulled away.

"I'm so sorry." he said.

"It's okay. But next time believe me." I smiled. He smiled too and he went home after he gave me a big cuddly hug.

I got a text.

Michael: Hey Grace, I need to talk to you.

Me: I don't think that's a good idea Michael.

Michael: Grace, please🙏

Me: Fine. 5 minutes at the park. FIVE minutes only.

Michael: Thank you. Meet me there now?

Me: Fine.

I didn't want to go, but I kind of miss our friendship. I walked to the park and saw Michael sitting on a bench. He smiled and I sat on the other side, far away from him. He scooted closer. I sighed in an annoyed way.

"What do you want?" I said not looking at him.

"You." He said. "Okay I didn't mean it like that. I meant I really like you still. But you won't except that, so I would like us to be friends again." he said grabbing my hand.

"I miss our friendship, but we can't be anything more. I have Hayes." I said.

"Okay, so friends?"

"Friends." I smiled. We stood up and hugged. I walked away with him smiling.

*HAYES POV*

Nash and I went to the court to play basketball. The park was like, literally right next to it. We walked up there and I saw Michael and Grace. I tried not to let it get to me.

"Hayes just, don't worry about it okay?" Nash comforted me. I nodded. But then I saw them holding hands, then stand up and hug. They both smiled really big, then Grace walked away with him smiling still. I got it really angry. Hayes, don't assume anything. I told myself. My face was getting red and I was on the verge of tearing up. Nash noticed.

"Come on it's probably nothing."

"Nothing?! They just held hands, hugged and smiled at each other!! I've never seen her act like that with her other guy friends Nash!!"

"Okay calm down. Just talk to her." he told me.

I knocked on her door. She opened it and Michael was sitting there on the couch with popcorn next to him.

"Hayes!" she smiled.

"What's going on?" I asked impatiently.

"What do you mean?"

"THIS!! I saw you guys at the park all huggy, and you couldn't stop smiling!" I explained why I was upset.

"I was going to tell you later that he wanted to talk to me and he asked me to be his-"

I cut her off. "What?! Oh my god I just don't, underst-... never mind." I said as I let a tear fall. I ran out the door. I bet she was going to say girlfriend. But what if she wasn't? Man I screwed up.

*MICHAEL POV*

I left Grace's house shortly after Hayes did. I told Grace that I would talk to Hayes for her and explain what happened. I walked over to Hayes's house and he opened the door. I'm actually going to convince Hayes that I did ask her out. I want them apart so I can have Grace.

"Hey man." he said.

"Hey I gotta tell you something."

"What?" he said as he closed the door and we went to the kitchen. His eyes were a little red.

"Dude have you been crying?" I asked concerned, but I'm not giving in. I want Grace.

"Uh.. a little." he mumbled.

"Well I have to tell you what happened at the park. I asked her out. I still really like her and I knew she was a little mad at you so..." I said.

"Actually we made up, but how could you do that to me?! I love her! I freaking love her!" he yelled at me.

"I couldn't help myself I'm sorry! Then she said yes so we hugged, and that's what she said she will tell you." I explained. I can't believe he is buying it. I felt bad because he's my best friend, but I really like Grace. He started to tear up, and his face got red. He looked like he was about to punch me, but he just walked past me and stormed up the stairs. I heard a door slam, and then I left and went home. Now I just have to keep her away from Grace.

*NASH POV*

I heard Hayes's door slam... again. So I went in his room and he was pacing back and forth about to punch something. His face was red with anger and he had tears running down his face.

"What's wrong?" I asked grabbing his shoulders to calm him down. He plopped on his bed and I heard soft crying. I feel terrible for the little guy.

"Michael fucking asked Grace out and she said yes!!" he yelled angrily.

"What?!? That can't be true Hayes she loves you! I see the way she looks at you. She's not the type of person to do that."

"BUT SHE DID! I LOVE HER NASH! I DO AND MY BEST FRIEND DID THAT TO ME!" he screamed more frustrated.

"What's going on in here?" my mom asked confused as she walked in the room.

"Uh, I'll tell you later." I said, and Hayes just buried his head in his pillow.

"Is he crying?" she asked worried. Hayes doesn't cry often at all so I know she is concerned. I decided to just tell her.

"Come on." I patted Hayes's back and took my mom into the hallway. "So Hayes and Grace love each other." I started off with that.

"They can't be in love they're 14!" she said confused.

"Trust me mom, they really are. You can tell." I smiled slightly. Hayes has been happiest with Grace and I don't want that to end. "And today Michael asked Grace out and she said yes..."

"What? She wouldn't do that!" she said.

"That's what I'm saying, but Michael told him that. And we saw her and Michael at the park hugging and stuff." I explained.

"Aw oh my gosh my poor baby." she frowned.

I went back into his room and he finally stopped crying but he looked really upset.

"You okay?" I asked.

"No." he whispered. I sighed and sat next to him. Oh god what is he going to do?
